A bit overhyped. Basically, this is overpriced economy rice served in little bowls. Paid about RM40 for 2 persons sharing 6 dishes. Dishes range from RM2 mapo tofu (the only dish at this low price), while vege is around RM5-RM8, and meat around RM8-RM16. Everything, including the rice / porridge is served in little bowls covered with plastic wrap and sit on a steamer to keep warm until a customer takes it. As a result, the rice and most of the dishes are overcooked as they have been sitting on the steamer for quite some time until the first customers come in for lunch. We tried a chicken dish as well as the "mui choy" pork belly and the meat were kinda dry due to being overcooked. The portion is also quite small and the bowls although they look of decent size, is actually quite shallow. Generally, the dishes were also quite salty and most of the ones we tried ended up being quite spicy as well. They probably pair better with porridge instead of rice. They do offer free chinese tea and broth which is a plus but not uncommon for economy rice. The restaurant is air-conditioned, clean and comfortable, and no complaints on the service although it is primarily self-service. Personally, I would prefer to just to go a normal economy rice restaurant to enjoy better tasting food while paying less, but if you don't mind paying more and want to be in a more comfortable setting, then perhaps this is...
Read moreWe went to try out this place as recommended by a family friend that this place serves dishes of China Chinese cooking style. It was a good experience as the restaurant serves many varieties of common dishes of China style. The service is like Malaysian mixed rice 杂饭 but all dishes are set in individual small plate/dish. With reasonable price per dish, one can easily try out many different dishes at one go. The place is clean, brightly lighted up and spacious. We ordered 9 dishes,1 fried rice and 1 plain rice which totalled to RM74, reasonable price. Free hot/cold water, free lemon water and hot soup are available.
The only set back is the location of water and soup is at a narrow space corner where only 2 persons can be upfront to get his water or soup. As a result, this place is often congested with customers queueing up for their turn during busy hours.
Whoever wants to try out different varieties of China Chinese dishes at reasonable price, this is the...
Read moreGreat Chinese food at a very attractive price. As their name already mentioned it is in Small Dishes, even the rice is also in a small bowl. The food quality is good and perfect for locals like me. They adjust the taste of the Chinese dishes to suit the local preference, but still maintaining the unique Chinese taste. This Chinese Small Dishes restaurant is mushrooming around Klang Valley and it is a better choice over the Mixed Rice restaurant. The environment is clean and neat, with aircond. The dishes are small, but you can take them based on the quantity that you can consume. The price starts from RM2 to 12 based on the kind of dishes. Very affordable and comparable to the mixed rice pricing. There is FREE soup, cha and water. And the FREE seaweed soup tasted good. It is a great place for lunch and dinner and small family dining too. All the dishes look very attractive and small, just don't take too many of these small bowls like we did, and ended up...
