📍 RATA Restaurant @ SS15

Here’s what we had:

𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗔 𝗙𝗜𝗦𝗛 𝗖𝗨𝗧𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗦 (RM21.90) 🐟 - Fresh Tenggiri Fish, Homemade Masala Marination, Mint Yogurt Sauce. This deep fried cutlets were bursting with flavour 🔥 Slightly spicy from the masala marinade and it had a nice authentic taste to it 😍

𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗣𝗬 𝗖𝗔𝗨𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗟𝗢𝗪𝗘𝗥 (RM17.90) - Sweet Paprika, Soda Water Batter, Pickled Onion Yogurt Sauce. Great snack to munch on but it was a little soggy; overall flavour was good 😋

𝗠𝗨𝗧𝗧𝗢𝗡 𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗘𝗗 𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗘 (RM31.90) 🐑- Basmati Rice, Mutton Masala, Chilli, Egg, Raita, Papadom. This is one of their must order dish 🔥 The ratio of meat to rice was like 3:1 🤣 They were so generous with the mutton to the extent that every bite was filled with multiple pieces of mutton 🥹 Every mutton lover’s dream ❤️ A lot of spices were used to give it that flavour boost 💯 Enjoyed this to the core 👍🏻

𝗖𝗛𝗘𝗘𝗦𝗬 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗛𝗥𝗢𝗢𝗠 𝗧𝗢𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗘 (RM26.90) - Sautéed Mushrooms, Teriyaki Mayo, Cheddar, Caramelised Onions, Brioche Loaf. 🥪 It’s vegetarian friendly and loaded with lots and lots of mushroom 😂😂 One thing about Rata is that they’re very generous with their fillings so if you’re a mushroom lover, you’re gonna be obsessed with this 😏 I loved the caramelised onions as it had a little char to it with a hint of sweetness 🥹 Overall it was very earthy because of the generous spread of mushrooms. 🍄

𝗠𝗨𝗧𝗧𝗢𝗡 𝗠𝗔𝗦𝗔𝗟𝗔 𝗣𝗜𝗭𝗭𝗔 (RM44.90) - Slow Cooked Mutton Masala, Onions, Yogurt, Crispy Curry Leaves. Ahhh here comes the highlight of our meal: Rata’s 14” Stone Baked Pizzas 😍🔥💯🍕 It’s thin crust with a nice crispy edge! Mutton masala is similar to the North Indian mutton rogan josh 🇮🇳 I loved how they added yoghurt to it as it made it extra Indian 😂🙏🏻 Flavours blended really well and it proves that Rata nails their unique fusion creations 👍🏻 They have lots of other flavours to try so it’s worth dropping by with your homies to check them out! Size is pretty big too, perfect for sharing among 2-3 pax ✌🏻

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸𝘀: PEDDLERS PLUM PATEK (Salted plum gin, Plum sauce, Mandarin Orange, Lime🍊) & PINEAPPLE PRADA (Pineapple Rum, Asam Syrup, Coconut Rum, Asam Rim 🥥🍍) Omg they have the best creative cocktails 😍🍸 The flavours are just indescribable and you can’t get it elsewhere 😱😱 I love how they use famous local ingredients like plum, mandarin orange and coconut rum to play around with their cocktails - it’s Malaysianised just the way we like it 🇲🇾👏🏻

𝑨𝒎𝒃𝒊𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆: Cosy interior for dining and a small bar counter too for cocktails 🍷 They also have a large table for big gatherings. Restaurant is fairly small so it’s perfect for private parties or intimate dining! 🥳 Creative waiting seats outside too with lots of greens to unwind! 🌿🎨

𝑴𝒆𝒏𝒖: Small plates, burgers, pizzas, local delights, pasta, creative fusion food, weekday lunch set, cocktails & wine 🍽️

𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈: Rata is located in a shop lot so you can park by the shop. I guess it shouldn’t be too hard to find a parking (unless during peak hours) as they’re located on the quieter side of SS15 (not near the LRT station)…it’s quite a distance to walk from the LRT station so I would recommend driving or...

We had to walk in as per advised over the phone by management, since the place was fully booked for the night we wanted, so we did. Place was packed. From the outside the ambience was great. It was definitely an amazing place to hang out with family or friends. The buck stopped there though. First, the menu was all scan-and-view. There are no physical menu available, so if you’re one of those who still insist on a physical menu, sorry you’re not going to get one. We ordered crispy Sriracha chicken bao, spicy lamb arancini, mutton masala pizza and jerk chicken wings. Forget the drinks, they’re fine. In fact, if you’re going there for a few drinks, it’s a nice place to do so, then again you can do that at any other local pubs. First of all, one of the staffs didn’t know which chicken wings were spicier, and she hesitantly said the jerky was the least spicy amongst the three, however seeing that something’s amiss, we asked another server who actually said the opposite. I was cold and shivering because I was sitting directly under the air cond, and when I requested them to switch it off (only the unit above me), they did, but five minutes later, it was back on. Didn’t want to argue, so I sat shivering there. Lamb arachini came first, plate came in like ten minutes later. Oh well. The only meal that actually had some semblance of flavour was the spicy lamb arachini. The bao was severely under-seasoned, and the chicken was not crispy at all. The chicken wings were terribly bland and the bones came apart, crumbling, a clear indication that it’s been in the freezer for quite some time and were inedible. The main course was the biggest disappointment. When the pizza arrived, my nose caught the unpleasant smell of undercooked mutton. Although the pizza base was nice (to my wife at least), I just couldn’t take the smell and when I was forced to eat it, the big and chunky mutton pieces were so bad, until now whenever I smell food from that point onwards I feel like throwing up (it’s been roughly 22 hours since my visit there). I left the place hungry and shivering. My wife and her friend (both foodies) didn’t fancy the food either. We paid a hefty sum of money for instagrammable photos but your food was inedible. How dare you serve me with old stock chicken wings with bones crumbling and black marrow sludges dropping out of it (not even dripping)! I was hungry man, but till now I feel nauseous when I put food in my mouth after the visit...

Rata Restaurant offers a unique dining experience with a focus on contemporary, creative cuisine in a stylish, modern setting. It’s a perfect spot for those looking to try innovative dishes made with locally sourced ingredients.

Food Quality and Presentation

The menu at Rata is well-curated and highlights fresh, seasonal ingredients. Each dish is beautifully presented, with great attention to detail in both flavor and plating. The flavors are bold and imaginative, offering a mix of Asian and Western influences. Standout dishes include the signature duck confit and seafood pasta, which are cooked to perfection and packed with flavor. The appetizers and desserts also don’t disappoint; the salted caramel dessert, in particular, is a must-try!

Ambience

Rata has a chic, comfortable atmosphere with stylish decor, creating a cozy yet upscale vibe. The lighting is soft, and the space is well-designed, perfect for both casual gatherings and special occasions. The restaurant also has an outdoor seating area, which is great for a more relaxed experience, especially in the evenings.

Service

Service at Rata is top-notch, with attentive and knowledgeable staff who are happy to make recommendations. The waitstaff is friendly and professional, enhancing the overall dining experience. Food is served in a timely manner, and they make sure you have everything you need throughout the meal.

Pricing

Rata is on the higher end in terms of pricing, but it’s justified by the quality of ingredients, thoughtful preparation, and attention to detail. For the quality of food and experience, it’s good value for money, making it worth the splurge for a memorable meal.

Overall

Rata Restaurant is a fantastic choice for those seeking a refined dining experience with creative, flavorful dishes. With its delicious menu, elegant ambiance, and excellent service, it’s definitely worth a visit. Perfect for date nights, family gatherings, or simply a...
