On August 29th, 2023, I had the pleasure of dining with a group of 15 friends and family members at The Syrup VS Soda in Kuala Terengganu. Here's my review of the experience:
Food Quality: One of the standout aspects of our dining experience at The Syrup VS Soda was undeniably the food. The dishes we ordered were not only delicious but also served in generous portions. The menu offered a wide variety of options to cater to different tastes and dietary preferences. From savory to sweet, each dish was a culinary delight that left our taste buds thoroughly satisfied. The ingredients were fresh, and the flavors were well-balanced, making every bite a memorable one.
Service: The staff at The Syrup VS Soda were attentive and courteous. They accommodated our large group with efficiency, and our orders were served promptly. It's worth noting that while the service was good, the restaurant can get quite busy, so making a reservation in advance is highly recommended to ensure you secure a table.
Ambiance: The ambiance of The Syrup VS Soda is cozy and welcoming, with a touch of nostalgia. The interior is charming, evoking a vintage soda shop vibe, which added to the overall appeal of the place. However, it's worth mentioning that the seating area can feel a bit cramped, especially during peak dining hours. This can make it a bit challenging to move around comfortably, particularly for larger groups.
Conclusion: In summary, The Syrup VS Soda in Kuala Terengganu is a must-visit for those who appreciate great food and a unique dining experience. The food quality and portion sizes were exceptional, and the staff provided excellent service. The only downside to consider is the limited space, which may require reserving a table in advance for larger groups. Despite this minor inconvenience, the delicious offerings and charming ambiance make The Syrup VS Soda a delightful dining destination...

We were in town just for one night due to our hectic schedule. My wife had made a dinner arrangement with her local business contacts, and we were told to meet here for dinner. Upon our checking with the hotel's front office, this place was actually within a walking distance from the hotel we were staying at. That was a plus point, as I wouldnt have to drive for dinner!
As we were trying to figure out the way to get there by foot, three gentlemen came out from the lift and delared that, " We are going to The Syrup vs Soda for dinner.." Upon hearing that, I nonchalantly enquired whether we could just tag along, and they answered in the affirmative..
As soon as we arrived at the restaurant, it had started to rain cats and dogs!! Lucky for us, we managed to get our tables, as our business contacts had made a prior booking. They also had placed the orders ahead of time, so before we realized it, the dishes were already being served at our table...And what huge servings they were!!! A plate of Nasi Goreng Kambing costed RM50.00 each, but each serving could easily feed 3 persons!! Hence, we all ended up sharing the plates amongst our party of 10 pax..
Fahim was challenged to finish the Nasi Goreng Kam Heong all by himself, and he was up for the challenge. But try as he did, he eventually failed, and we had to help him to do the honor...The beverages were also served by the gallons, in huge mugs. And most of us couldnt finish our drinks either..Maybe we should have shared them also, as sharing is indeed caring...

The chicken chop was average, decent but nothing outstanding. The real highlight was the Nasi Goreng Kambing Special – although meant for 2 pax, it can easily feed 3 (you may ask for packaging container to tapao the unfinished portion in case you fail the challenge). The lamb was meaty with a slightly chewy bite, carrying a sweet undertone. The rice itself was nicely balanced, not overseasoned and not too dry. Be warned – it’s so satisfying you might overeat even when you’re full!
The kuey teow goreng was alright, again served in a very big portion. Do ask to omit the chili if you prefer it less spicy.
Overall, hearty food with generous servings that make it worth a try.
Parking could be a challenge but doable if park further. Do observe their...
