For a restaurant ran for years, the experience was a bit off. Though the table service was good and well-trained server, the foods were below expectation. Hence the 2 stars.
The portion is big as the price is quite high and the expectation was set high upon ordering. However, it looks like the kitchen is too stingy with the protein when the foods arrived.
The salmon fillet was so thin, about half inch wide and a palm long. It was about a size of a soluble vitamin C bottle. Even other establishement in the surrounding area, served larger portion of salmon within the same price. Eg KBB steakhouse (sorry to mention). The carb (mashed potato and a sliced of garlic bread) was generous. Salad and coleslaw are just acceptably edible (pasar malam quality).
Same goes with the chicken quesadilla, where it was very thin and filled with mostly mushroom. Few pieces of chicken can barely taste in the whole serving. Same salad serving as the Salmon dish.
Soft shell crab on the other hand was salty and soggy. This was the most depressing soft shell crab I ever ate and the dipping sauce was not helping at all.
Luckily the sweet potato fries was nicely executed. Crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside with scrumptious dipping.
Since the establishment had ran for some time, I have to rate it 2 star for some mitigation (perhaps). So price wise I would say, expensive base on the portion and quality executed. Sorry.
Response: Will response just once. Thanks to the owner for the defensive reply. As used to be in F&B line for years myself, I could understand the trigger there. As your reply intention is non-confrontational, the same goes with mine (both).
An empty plate does not speak about the food all the time. As a professional like yourself, you might realise the cutlery message, while your server clearing up the table. For that kind of food and price, none would leave the plate full or half empty.
As a professional restauranteur for 10 years, I am pretty sure, you do understand that feedback need to be asked. Customer satisfactions need to be asked while customer still in the restaurant. None of your waiter do that including you. As we are the only customer in the restaurant, perhaps you should have a courtesy to stand up from your cashier seat and do the customer engagement for feedback. At least during payment, a simple “is everything ok?” question will open up a constructive feedback that you hope to get. When you didn’t take that chance, it is up to the customer how they want to deliver their feedback.
Not every restauranteur willing to accept critic face to face. Hence sending back food back to the kitchen is almost a taboo in this country.
Sorry if you felt uneasy and defensive with the critics on your food, but I am sticking with it. If you can’t face the wave, don’t build a house by the sea. Elaborating the kitchen SOP will not justify what have been produced. Your nicely fashioned menu does not elaborate about your food and you expect customer to understand what was being serve is value for money?
Lastly, I congratulate your effort to be Halal Certified and wish...

Gossip Kitchen is not one of those reasons (lol) but it certainly showed me there is more to life on the other side as to compared to the business that KL is accustomed too.
About Gossip Kitchen, the chef is a super friendly guy, remember him having a chat with my wife and I and the menu in itself had plenty to choose from.
The service, the atmosphere, and most importantly the food was well served and tasted delicious.
