Bukit Puteri or Princess Hill, is located just a few steps opposite of Central Market (Pasar Payang). This 173 year-old 200m hill only came to known when the Sultan Baginda Omar turned it into a defensive fortress in 1831 during his reign period. To perform the function of a protective fortress, a few units of cannon and a bell was placed. The bell served as an ‘alarm’ whenever there are enemies were detected. It was also the residence for the Sultan during the early days of his ruling.
Today stairs are properly built for people to climb to the top. Most of the cannon had taken back by the Siam during the period when they ruled Terengganu in 1843-1845. Remaining there are a flagpole, a few left over cannons, a bell and a lighthouse. The bell, however, is still performing its function but no more to alert the existence of enemies instead a breaking fast reminder during the fasting month.
Best time to visit the fort in the morning or evening time when temperature is not too extreme. From the platform at the top, you can see fishing boat coming back home after a hard day. To the other side, you have a panoramic view of...
Read moreI want others to know about this. I'm too overwhelmed and overexcited when after so long years this was announced to be reopened for free, only to get here with full disappointment. From official web Muzium Terengganu (refer maroon picture attached), it only stated it's free entrance until April 6, 2025, but it didn't even mention it's actually free entrance everyday EXCEPT ON FRIDAY qwq, 9AM to 5PM. If you visit on friday like I do, the gate is locked. 😓 And what's more, I'm totally disappointed with the building. Should be maintained well for heritage lor.. The building is already aging. And it's flooded with algae-sea (can see on the basement parking). 😱 Well, I know Bukit Puteri and this singular building is different "entity", but as heritage, should maintained both well. I knew, Terengganu maybe flooded before but still, as a common people, I can only hope 😅. I will come again 3+ years in future to see the improvement 👎🏼 Hoping for the better. 🙏🏼 Wish I can see the view from its top, not from the bottom as...
Read moreIs this place permanently closed to the public? I always wanted to see this place especially because of its historical background and the local's legends but unfortunately ever since i learnt about its existence (which is also recently during the national's Covid 19 PKP) it has been closed down. Ive been to KT before but since I traveled with public transport, it was hard to go around the City from the budget hotel i stayed because taxis and local town public buses were hardly around unless youre near to the bus terminal (no taxi will stop if you hailed from the roadside). Hopefully during my next trip, the City already has the Grab service for tourists' easy access to many...
