Courtyard Lounge Cafe — Restaurant in Mdina

The place has gone from excellent to very poor. Compare the same dish ‘egg avocado’ between 2 months ago (priced €7) and now (priced €8). Before we ordered, we asked if the egg was egg Benedict and 30minutes later we got two fried egg on a layer of soggy toast with a thin spread of avocado. The Parma ham (charged at an extra €1.50 for a total of €9.50) was fried! We of course weren’t made to pay for the returned dishes which we didn’t touch but were charged €8 for 2 orange juices. Talk about customer service! Overpriced for very poor food. This place used to be great for Sunday breakfast but now it’s a rip off!

Edit in view of the owner’s response: The waiter showed us the old menu when asked what egg avocado is all about. The old menu clearly said ‘eggs benedict’ and we double checked this was correct before ordering. So the owner’s answer below is misleading. Apart from that, the significant drop in quality and a simultaneous increase in the price make the 1 star review still warranted. A response like theirs doesn’t make me remain ‘a loyal customer’. Stumbled upon this place accidentally on Google Maps when we were looking for a coffee spot. We ended up ordering cocktails instead and it was definitely the right choice! The ambience is lovely and the owner is so passionate about the place and its history, which adds such a nice touch. Will definitely come back for the breakfast...

A lovely quiet courtyard with good food and exceptional service. If you want to experience a truly quiet moment in Mdina do visit. We visited last Tuesday evening and the lovely girl who took care of us (so sad that we didn't ask her name) went above and beyond for us. We hope her good luck in...
