A real find! Tucked away Boutique Hotel with an amazing restaurant, a really highly talented Chef, fabulous menu and discreet but attentive service, all under the Owner’s watchful eye. My wife and I began with the red prawn carpaccio in a ginger and grapefruit gel together with a ‘special dish’ of prawn and a local white fish, arancini. Both were exceptional. For main course I had the veal chop, that was cooked precisely as requested served with an array of very complementary vegetables, with my wife having the duck, again cooked to perfection. As a Michelin Chef herself, she recognises true and really genuine skill in the kitchen and we were not in any way disappointed! Pudding, albeit we were being greedy as the preceding portions were generous, I had the most delicious fig/date pastry with halva ice cream, my wife’s chocolate lava torte with a pistachio creme anglaise, that could only be described as masterful! I had the Meridianna Maltese red wine, which sold by the glass was reasonable yet complemented my meal to perfection. Unfortunately my wife does not drink wine. Her loss! We would both wholly recommend that you seek out this restaurant and very much hope that you will also thoroughly enjoy the experience! It will remain a truly memorable evening for us...
Read moreBeing tourist we tried any place we met and this restaurant was the worst one. As pros I can mention only its placement and atmosphere…and that’s it. we were met by very unpleasant and I would say, aggressive, manager which, looking forward, was focused on exact pair there and ignoring the rest clients. we’ve got our menu after 20 minutes of being there where only 6 tables were active. starter position “beef tartar” looked not even close to photos in google. It contained only meat, egg and peace of bread. So don’t trust pictures you found. main dish was okay, cannot say nothing but only potatoes as sides was not fried as it should be. But meat was okay, at least thanks for that. we were sitting till the closing time and when “main focus” of that manager left he tried to become pleasant just to get tips as last thing because it cost nothing to him as we were almost leaving. me and my wife asked for two same cocktails: mojito and virgin mojito and both were virgin. Just trust me, I’m an alcoholic, I’m sure that cocktail had no alcohol in there. By the end of everything we’ve got very negative impression on a place with 4,7 mark and 100 euro bill. Strongly recommend to think twice before...
Read moreWe had a simply outstanding meal at the Core. From start to finish the service, food and attention to detail was superb. Alex and the team are very attentive, friendly and efficient. Nothing was too much trouble.
The setting is excellent with a relaxed and comfortable outside space looking out onto the historic Mellieha square. The outdoor dining area is really well furnished with a really modern look.
We ordered the Burrata to start, the USDA Sirloin and the Duck breast. The quality of the food, the fresh and local ingredients made for high quality dishes. The presentation was just like any high end London or New York restaurant. Modern and elegant. The deserts were just as good, portion sizes were excellent.
Our son ate with us (7) and enjoyed his pasta and homemade sauce. He was made to feel welcome by the staff and it added to a great atmosphere for us.
The wine list is strong and varied with a great drinks menu that’s supported by a wide array or malts, rum and gin. This is all served from a show stopping gold bar upstairs in the building.
If you’re looking for a memorable meal in a great setting, I could not recommend The...
