I dined here after a brisk morning walk on the Malecon. I ordered the Fish Taco and Soup special with coffee. I was pleasantly surprised when my coffee cup was refilled without asking--refills are free! I was also pleased to receive an appetizer of chips with bean dip, pico de gallo, and salsa. What a way to make an impression. Appetizers in Mexico, though a tradition, are not complementary at other restaurants in the area. The tacos were served with guacamole, tasty cole slaw, pico de gallo, and limes. The Portions are huge! The soup was filled with tomatoes, and zucchini and elbow macaroni in a zesty tomato base. It paired perfectly with the tacos.
Owners, Oscar and Laura, were friendly and attentive without being intrusive.
I will happily return...
Read moreAlways a nice place to have traditional authentic Mexican food. El Zarape has always pulled through with their dishes. This morning's dish of choice were chilaquiles green sauce with eggs and a light breakfast for my partner. Both were delicious and well presented. Compliments to the cook!
There were others dining inside and outside of the restaurant. We sat inside, by the window, with a great view of the malecon and ocean. And, it was air conditioned. Perfect dining experience.
Our server was welcoming, pleasant and helpful with our food preparation questions. Zarape has never disappointed.

The ramekin of lime wedges I received with my chips and salsa included one that had already been squeezed sitting right on top. They must’ve just taken it right off another table and not even looked at it. I should have known better than to eat right on the Malecon, just like anywhere else, quality and price do not equate on the main tourist drag. Go two blocks off the waterfront and everything gets better...
