My daughter suggested La Catrina Cantina based on the 4.5 star rating. When we arrived the menu , at least to me, didn’t look very appealing and came across as standard Mexican fare.
We decided to give it a try as the very young fella (14yrs old) who showed us the menu was very polite and gracious for his age told us about a few specials they were having that sounded interesting. His English was not the greatest but he had a fantastic attitude and he made a huge effort to communicate with us
Once inside we were warmly greeted by our waiter Pablo! He again gave a better and clearer explanation of the specials of the day and made some fantastic recommendations for both food and drinks.
Pablo recommended locally brewed beers that were way better than corona, suggested the soft shell crab burger for my wife, and I had the ribeye! My daughter had the chicken fajitas.
Food presentation was ok but the flavours were outstanding!
The soft shell crab burger was extremely delicious! You taste the ocean and crab! The brioche bun was light and fluffy, matched really well to the burger, and didn’t leave you feeling stuffed and heavy at the end of the meal.
The ribeye was not the greatest cut but was really well seasoned and very flavourful. Normally when I ask for medium rare I get a medium steak. In this instance the steak was medium rare and cooked really well! The vegetables were very tender and baked potato yummy!
Unfortunately I didn’t try my daughter’s chicken fajitas as she devoured it instantly and didn’t want to share! I’m guessing it was good as she normally pawns food off on us
This place is definitely worth trying. As a steak man, the steak tasted way better than the steak I had a Chamuyo in Cabos San Jose
Service was exceptional! Pablo’s recommendations were spot on! He made us feel very welcome, answered our questions and even gave us a few surprises during our visit! As for the young fella that invited us in, he played host to all other patrons and also supported Pablo with cleaning and clearing tables, serving food and drinks, and kept himself busy in the restaurant! ...
Read more(This review is only from a service standpoint since the food itself was pretty good) The older man with the grey curly hair was the rudest server I have ever had in my life. To start off, he completely rushed us and gave us attitude when people in our party were trying to figure out what to order. He then proceeded to say “you guys need to order NOW so that your food comes out at the same time.” I told him it was fine. He then wrote down our drink order wrong and got mad when we told him it was wrong. He rolled his eyes and insisted that he wrote it down correctly. Then he made an aggressive hand gesture towards us when we told him once again that it was wrong. Keep in mind we were not rude about it at all, if anything his attitude towards us threw us off completely. We immediately felt un-welcomed and highly uncomfortable to the point where we almost got up and left the restaurant. However, we ended up staying and at one point my mom asked for salsa. 10 minutes passed and we assumed the waiter forgot so my mom politely reminded him and he gave her attitude and said “i have another table!” Literally he only had ONE other table and the reason he hadn’t brought it was because he was too busy talking to the bartenders instead of doing his job. Also there was no reason for him to get defensive especially since my mom kindly asked. Fast forward to the end of our meal, he began cleaning the table while we were STILL sitting and got crumbs on my mom’s lap. This should show you how impatient he was. He really couldn’t wait to wipe down the table until after we left. Overall, he was very impatient and rude throughout our whole time here. If this is how the service is, I now understand why this restaurant is so empty. Anyways, it’s a shame that there’s such a rude person representing such a nice restaurant. It completely overshadows the fact that the food is actually...
Read moreSometimes, it's the unexpected moments that make a trip memorable, and La Catrina Cantina in Todos Santos offered just that. This wasn't originally on our itinerary, but I'm so glad we decided to give it a chance.
From the moment we walked in, Pablo, an incredibly witty and charming host, made us feel right at home with his humour and warm hospitality. He provided clear explanations of the day's specials and offered fantastic recommendations for both food and drinks. I chose the ribeye – while it wasn't the finest cut, the seasoning was spot-on, making it extremely flavourful.
The highlight of the evening was a thoughtful surprise from Pablo. As a parting gift, he presented me with a pair of earrings, a keepsake I cherish to this day. This gesture was above and beyond anything I've experienced at a restaurant.
To Pablo – if you're reading this, a heartfelt thank you for making our night so special. I highly recommend La Catrina Cantina to anyone in Todos Santos looking for exceptional hospitality and a dining experience that feels like a scene...
