This was our first restaurant in Cabo that we visited four years ago and we had good memories of it. Therefore we wanted to revisit it on a busy Thursday evening. It should have been a first warning sign that it was pretty empty, while crowds outside were waiting for spots in other restaurants. A second warning sign came when our server placed the fork on my right side and the knife on the left side. Then came the starter - a fish tiradito aka Mexican sashimi. It was just ok and not good as expected. The complete disappointment came with the main courses. Grilled octopus was very salty and accompanied by a feta salad with raw onion, the latter ingredient not listed in the menu. The seafood orso came with a piece of fish, which was raw inside. When we complained, they offered us either a different dish or the same dish. I opted for the same. Instead of getting a new seafood orso, the chief had just cooked further that piece of raw fish at the same time overcooking the prawns, which now were dry with a skin impossible to peel off. When I asked for clams which were listed as ingredients of the seafood orso the chief brought me some on the side. Altogether it was a complete disappointment. The chef and the manager came to us and apologized which was...
Read moreWhen looking at the reviews I have to assume that we went there on an off day.
The place is nice and comfortable, located at the heart of San Jose in a very nice area to walk and get touristy. We had dinner in the patio at the back.
Food was below average. Grilled oysters were ok, nothing to write home about. My wife had a vegetable taco, also ok but a bit bland which in all honestly I would expect from something like that. We also ordered a rib eye, this one was just bad. Meat was though, really tough. When asked about our meal we commented on the toughness of the meat and were told by the waiter that it was expected to be tough because it was “organic” beef. Not saying I am expert or anything close to that but feel that’s not completely accurate or maybe we were just not waiting that kind of response.
Service was ok, staff got a bit defensive when we made the comment about the rib eye but overall we were treated very well.
Value was just not there for us. Again, looking at all the positive reviews I wonder if we just didn’t order their top dishes or if we were there on a bad day. Anyways, not the best...
Read moreI remember the days when this place was $50 for two people, if not less, just a couple years ago. Even a year ago it was around that price making it a real hidden gem. Now it is double. Used to be my favorite spot (food is still good- portions used to be bigger), but it is just unfortunate they've jacked their prices so high making it so the locals are left scratching their head as to if they're eating in LA or New York (instead of in Mexico) now with such prices.
It is clear to me that they're targeting the tourist money, abandoning their roots, these days who don't know better as to what the place used to be and what it has become. Will be cooking at home a lot more going forward. $20+ for 6 oysters.. get out of here. $25+ for their small sashimi strips (used to be around $10). Pffff maybe if you didn't have so much staff on site, just standing around cause it is empty during summer, you wouldn't have to rip your (once loyal) customers off. What a concept never...
