Don't get this place confused with the taco shop across the street (curiously named Tacos La Vuelta... hmmmm... tsk tsk). This is a full-fledged restaurant, with a variety of seating, an upper-level, and a stage large enough to hold a mariachi band (performances begin around 8 pm). It's been in business for decades and has a historic feel. WiFi is strong.
Though I have had better tampiqueña elsewhere in the United States as well as in Mexico, that didn't stop me from eagerly scarfing up every single bite of it here. The kitchen even accommodated my request for a substitute side dish, for which I am grateful.
As mentioned in other reviews, the friendly service really sets this eatery apart from others. Whenever I visit a new restaurant for the first time, I make no secret of it. This sometimes results in a delighted (and delightful) response from the staff; today's first time visit produced an especially sweet reaction. The server was funny and high-energy. The hostess not only invited me to tour the closed upper level so I could take pictures, she also alerted what seemed to be the restaurant manager, who came over to introduce herself personally. En cuanto al servicio, PÉSIMO, el mesero que atendió nuestra mesa un señor calvo, nunca estuvo al pendiente, nunca pidió un platillo ordenado, y en el pago de la cuenta, "saco" sus cuentas, y en ellas nos faltaba dinero por pagar, además cuando nos hizo su observación no fue cortés, como si nosotros quisiéramos pagar de menos, por lo que decidimos acudir a caja para aclarar, en dónde resultó, que nuestro pago era correcto y hasta nos sobró por lo que quedó la sospecha de que el nos quería cobrar de más, yo no invite y no pagué, pero ni un solo centavo le hubiera dejado de propina, no le reclamé nada, porque yo no era el anfitrión y no quise que se hiciera un escándalo, por los invitados y demás comensales.
