Altamar Bar and Restaurant — Restaurant in Cancún

The prices are significantly more expensive than restaurants a block away ($50 for agua fresca, $199 for enchilada, which I think they charged me more than the menu states… shady) and they also charged me mandatory tip on the bill (actually illegal..?). Not only that, this was quite literally the worst food I’ve had my entire trip. I hate leaving bad reviews but I would like to warn other tourists. I was able to pay the bill in exact change down to the peso because I felt like if I had paid with card or if I had paid with a bigger bill, I would have never gotten my change back or would have got scammed. It definitely had that vibe. Other comments say they “forgot” to give back change when the restaurant was empty. When I went it was also empty. Should have taken that as a sign. There was no redeeming factor about this restaurant and it felt like a scam....

Food was ok, all of us enjoyed it. How ever when it came to payment the staff became very hostile and rude. Lurking around as we looked at the bill and sorted out payment among the group. We were met with silence and eye rolls when we asked to pay card even though the server had a card machine on her person. After payment she demanded a 10% tip even though we had tipped about 9.7% (just rough maths and rounding up). We were also surrounded by other staff members at this point. After we paid the difference she insinuated that we needed to pay more and scowled and laughed out of the restaurant. Overall ruined the vibes of the night and am disappointed that we gave...

walked up and wasn’t greeted for almost 10 minutes. Didn’t see anyone but a bartender way in back to approach. Once seated, tortillas for fajitas came 10-15 minutes after food had been put on table, so the tortillas were the only thing hot. Upon payment, was told no card and only cash (no visible signs stating this, never mentioned until end). Gave waiter smaller tip for this bad experience, but she waited over table asking for tip and heckled extra to get her to leave. Very unwelcoming and unprofessional.
