Bajo del Mar — Restaurant in Cancún

This little gem is hidden in the Ultramar Ferry Terminal. As someone who spends a lot of time in Puerto Juarez, seafood restaurants are a-plenty.

We wandered in looking for some MEAT. We tried their Hawaiian Burger and Club Sandwich. Very good. Even their french fries were great; crispy, yet tender inside and perfectly salted.

Now, we both love good, well balanced margaritas and mojitos. But they are extremely hard to find. In fact, we usually order 1 to try and often stop there. The Mojitos here have beef consistently excellent.

A great place for people watching

Cons: 1. The kitchen is very slow getting out orders. Make sure you've got at least 30 minutes for food. 2. Their menu is in very small type, prices don't line up with the items and is essentially unreadable. 3. They add a fee when using credit cards. As in many places, USD conversion rate is not great. 4. The barstool-styled chairs are uncomfortable after a while.

Honestly terrible experience.

We paid 66$ USD for 2 orders of guac and chips and 2 watered down drinks.

And when I put in my order, the waiter nodded and said yes; I then asked another waiter if my order was coming, he said yes; twenty minutes later, I tried to confirm that my order was actually coming and he had the gall to look confused and tell me he forgot to put it in. And the end result? These sad tacos … no sauce, no nothing, untoasted bland tortillas and it all fell apart in my hands.

I get that this is a tourist trap location so expectations are low but if you’re gonna charge such high prices and have bland food then at least you gotta have good service. Alas, that did not happen here.

Stopped by Bajo Del Mar while waiting for the ferry. Anazul, our server, was really friendly and got us seated right away. The guacamole and the pork tacos were tasty, though the fish tacos were ok.
