I was on vacation in Cancun, Mexico and my travel partner really wanted to go somewhere to eat that served surf & turf so we decided to visit the Crab House.
We went on a Sunday evening and were able to get a table right away. The staff were all very attentive and accommodating. We were seated and then were immediately brought complimentary bread and a bottle of water.
We were a little shocked at the prices while looking at the cocktail menu but decided to stay and hope the prices were worth it. I had originally wanted to order the Alaskan Crab but the price was listed as m/p, when I checked the current price it was over $100 USD. I decided against it and so both my partner and I ordered the surf & turf which worked out to be about $81 USD.
Our food was presented to us with three dips (butter, garlic sauce, and pepper sauce) and the presentation of the steak, lobster and baked potato was beautiful. My only complaint is that I had asked for my order without onions and my baked potato came with chives on it. I'm sure if I had asked they would have made me a new potato but they were fairly easy to pick off, and I understand that most people don't consider chives to be an onion; I should have been more specific.
Our food was delicious!! Coming from Alberta, Canada I did not have high expectations for the steak but it was cooked perfectly and was one of the best things I've ever eaten. I typically prefer crab over lobster but the lobster was also cooked very well and was extremely delicious. The baked potato was also pretty tasty. The portion sizes were huge; I have a much smaller appetite than my travel partner and in all honesty we probably could have shared one order because we ended up with leftovers that we didn't end up eating back at our resort (mainly because we didn't have a microwave).
The view from the patio was quite pretty, overlooking the lagoon and I'm sure the sunset from the patio is stunning!
I wish we had still been hungry enough for dessert as I'm sure the dessert is also very delicious!
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who can find room for it in their budget! It is very very delicious and you won't be disappointed with the food or the service. It is however very pricey so keep that in mind...

My friends and I visited Cancun from Sunday to Thursday, while on vacation . Each night we enjoyed wonderful service and truly delicious food. It wasn’t until our last night that we ventured to The Crab House. The service here was mediocre, at best. On top of the mediocre service, the food was not good overall. I started my meal by ordering a strawberry mojito that seemed to consist of only purée. My friends and I order the crab stuff baked potato as an appetizer — the first potato had little to no crab, and bacon (the bacon not listed on the menu). The second potato we ordered, as my friends do not eat bacon, seemed to be close to what was expected. While eating the appetizer, our waiter attempted to present the fresh seafood options of the evening. He came to our table with a plate of octopus, lobster tail, shrimp and fish laying on a bed of lettuce and surrounded by what looked like, old grapefruit slices. The seafood appeared less than fresh and attracted a number of gnats, likely due to the smell or close to spoiled nature of the food. I found myself quickly rushing the waiter through his presentation to keep the bugs away from the table (a manager was later seen openly “smell testing” the platter before presenting it to other tables). Despite the less than pleasing mojito and the unpleasant platter presentation, my friends and I pressed on and ordered dinner — a mistake.
One of us ordered the shrimp and beef fajitas - average but enjoyable. Another one of us ordered the shrimp risotto - average would be an overstatement here. My friend wasn’t interested in finishing her meal. I ordered the bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp. The plate arrived with a total of 6 shrimp, I was able to eat two. Overall, this experience was extremely disappointing and honestly, the only disappointing meal we had while in Mexico (lucky us!) across our 5 day stint of breakfasts, lunches and dinners. The crab house will need to consider some significant improvements to their presentation and meal service. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and...
Read moreWe came here on May 10, 2017 for a special lunch, and had the most amazing experience possible at this restaurant. We came a day before to scope out the restaurants in the area and to see the menu options, venue and prices. Juan greeted us at the front and because of his attitude and smile (and the food selection and atmosphere), we picked this restaurant. We came back in for lunch the next day and asked our waiter, Jose, if we could sit outside to enjoy our drinks by the water, and then return inside to eat. All of the staff accommodated us better than I've seen at a restaurant back home. Our tables were cleared promptly, our sparkling water glasses refilled from a bottle brought to our table, our chairs and napkins placed and pushed in all the time... We did not have to lift a finger. We had a full walk-through of today's specials, with a presentation of the seafood on a platter. After finishing our peach Bellini's (which were so good), we headed inside to eat. We were started off with warm bread varieties, and a butter mix that was absolutely amazing. We chose the Fillet Mignon with a baked potato, and the Thermidor Lobster. I could cut my steak by barely holding the knife, it was just like butter and cooked to perfection. And the lobster was a thing of beauty. It all tasted like heaven. After having a subtle conversation about it being our anniversary, Jose arranged for a surprise dessert and an applause by all the staff members. It was the cutest and most unexpected thing I imagined. Thank you so much guys for taking such good care of us and making our day so...
