If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Let me start off by saying the food and show were great. The alcohol drinks were very watered down and overpriced. This was my first time at Tora and I will never go back. Visited on 04/02/2022 and the service was terrible. I was with a group of 7 people and when we received our bill we noticed that it did not look right. First off, they would not let us pay separately which was the first red flag. Everyone had to total out the food they had and they tried to charge $500 usd for a bill that came out to $290 just for ONE PERSON. The whole staff was very rude. They added food to our bill that we did not have. Dany, one of the assistant managers was so rude when it was time for me to pay my bill she told me I needed to pay whatever items were left on the bill and would not allow me to pay for the food I had only. When I asked what items I was paying for she refused to tell me and just kept repeating that it has to be paid. When they see Americans they think that we don’t know how to convert currency and that's how they try to get over by adding extra items to the bill thinking no one would notice. Then the manager (short guy with blonde hair) came over and offered us “shots” to take with us for the inconvenience. It was just a shot glass filled with grape juice and everyone started laughing at us. I have never felt so embarrassed and unsafe in my life. All of the staff were surrounding our table laughing and talking about us in Spanish. We even had kids with us and they were scared. I feel like because we are Black, they didn’t think that we would tip so they added extra items no one at the table had. I always frequent nice restaurants and pay a generous tip so money is never the issue. At the end, everyone at my table was overcharged. Not only was my family humiliated but we were also discriminated against. Tora should be ashamed of themselves if that’s how their staff treat people that come to their restaurant then they have no reason being employed at such establishment. I would rather spend my money...
Read moreI have been reading all the negative reviews and a common denominator I see is the overcharging of customers. I remember the first time I went there 4 years ago I had an amazing experience. The waiter at the time never pushed a sale he was extremely knowledgeable of the food and drinks. Calmly took the time explain the meals and most importantly served us as if we were the only clients in the restaurant.
Fast forward to now, knowing they hired lots of young people that hustle people out of tips. These guys told my wife "We provided you with excellent service and we deserve an extra tip" It was almost amusing, if they had provided excellent service I think I should be the judge not them. Second if they did provided excellent service and after making that comment, all you provided was thrown out the window. You leave a bad taste with the customer when you ask for a tip. A customer will gladly give you what you deserve not WHAT YOU think you deserve.
The waiters are on you. TRY A TOMAHAWK!. try this drink try this, but they don't explain anything about the meal and drink. Their goal is up your bill as high as possible to get that higher imposed tip.
Management these tactics are your fault. You are well aware of what is going on and by you not addressing the issue you condone it. Now I see you are calling police because people are catching on to your tricks, that the only recourse you have to assure payment that in some cases you know are not merited. I'm sure your are seeing your revenues increasing but at the cost of the reputation of your business and dissatisfied customers. Its a shame the owners are seeing the higher revenues and not questioning them, allowing the waiters to become more brazen and experienced. You are fostering a band of crooks.
I miss what you were, I miss the respect you gave customers and when we left we felt good and wanting to come back. Now you make people feel as if they were victimized as your employees relish in their theft by false...
Read moreSome good, some bad. Ribeye steak, terribly chewy and did not really look or taste like ribeye. Miso black cod was tough and did not taste like black cod. veggie tempura is meh. Duo tartare was delightful. Salmon roll with tempura shrimp pretty solid. Mushroom curry, AMAZING.
Now for the service. Oh my goodness the service. As soon as we sat down, the server asked if we’re celebrating anything. We said my dad and sister’s birthday. They said, “amazing! Let’s celebrate with tequila, after all you’re in Mexico, right?” And then proceeded to bring out top shelf tequila bottles while acting as if they were going to provide a house tequila shot for the birthdays. They’re selling a shot of an $80 bottle for $50. The hostess had asked if we had allergies. I said I’m allergic to avocado. The waiter then asked again if anyone has allergies. I said I’m allergic to avocado. So I stated I’m allergic to avocado twice, and yet our food came out with avocado. When I mentioned it to them, they said they’d fix it and bring a roll without avocado. Then they just brought me another one of the other roll I had already tried. I wanted to try the roll I had ordered, but without avocado. Anywho, they charged me for this roll for “fixing their mistake.” Shortly thereafter the veggie tempura came out. With a fried half avocado. The server charged us for two bottles of water when we only had one. Whether he snuck in a new bottle of water without asking or he just charged us, nobody at my table ever ordered extra water. We were pressured to tip more than we wanted to, and then pressured us to write reviews.
If you’re ok with horrible service and extremely overpriced food, the food is pretty decent here. You’re really paying for the view. It’s a very nice restaurant, but I absolutely hated...
