La Casa de la Mantarraya — Restaurant in Cancún

My first visit to this restaurant. I ordered the surf and turf nachos based on a photo I saw from another review. When the waiter brought it to my table, I did some digging in the plate and found there were no shrimp. When he came back I mentioned it to him and within 5 minutes I had a layer of shrimp that more than made up for the slight mistake. Also, there was a little more sour cream than I would have liked. The plate was big enough to be shared by 3 people, so I will be having the rest for dinner. Adriel provided excellent service and attention even though it was towards the end of the night and they were closing in an hour. He was super helpful and speaks some English as well. The Clericot was tasty and quenched my thirst. The sausage and chips that provided when we arrived were also good but a little spicy if you like that. We are here almost every Friday or Saturday for the Salsa Band, dancing, drinks & food. We feel like family here, knowing the owner, manager and waiters. The food is excellent, such as the seafood tacos, the pizzas, the tuna several salads and the sangria. (Sorry, but I can' recommend the hamburgers.)

This restaurant has a beautifully covered outdoor garden terrace and a nicely airconditioned indoor restaurant (for those hot Cancun days). Both sides have tile floors which makes dancing wonderful, though a little tight when more than 4 couples dance. But not to worry, the music is wonderful. We visited this restaurant on the last evening of our holiday. Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed from the moment we got there. We waited and waited for someone to welcome and seat us. When our waitress finally came she pointed to a table and didn’t bother to show us to it. There were four of us and she offered us only two menus. It then took another ten minutes for our drinks order to be taken. We then ordered our meals. My starter arrived lukewarm but my aunts arrived with her main meal twenty minutes later. All of our meals were swimming in oil and absolutely no care was taken with the presentation.
