La Palapa Restaurant at Fiesta Americana Cancún Villas — Restaurant in Cancún

Just happened to see the reviews, and this restaurant is totally underrated! Every time we attempt to eat out in Cancun we are invariably disappointed by some facet of the service (something about overzealous servers brushing every breadcrumb off your table every time you pick up your fork tends to weaken my appetite, but hey I guess not everyone cares about personal space) but this place has always knocked it out of the park, at least for us. I admit I am not crazy about the hotel Fiesta Americana Cancun Villas right now due to a very unfair and dramatic change in our timeshare they pushed on us several years, but almost every food item we have had here has been excellent. With one or two exceptions the staff has been very good. Very good Mexican musical groups have passed through when we’ve dined in, so the ambiance is so nice! Plus it’s a Mayan palapa right on the water. I guess I’m not here everyday to see every detail, but I think the rating on this place seriously deserves to go up. I try to go to every NYC restaurant week and treat myself occasionally to a Michelin restaurant, live in the food capital of the world, familiarize myself with every Mexican food truck in my neighborhood, and used to dine in Paris or Nice every week for my job—and maybe part of this is sentimentality but this is quite possibly one of my favorite restos...
