Lorenzillo's is one of the most beautiful restaurants on earth. I don't need to see every restaurant on the planet to make such a lofty statement, these are just the facts. A dining experience rarely gets better than this, and walking through it's dark-stained wooden corridors will give you an old-world feeling of comfort and elegance. Service here is among the best I've ever experienced, making the flow of the entire meal perfect from start to finish. In the two decades since my first visit I've never experienced the same amazing feeling of contentment that having a sunset dinner on the wrap-around deck here provides.
The same classic traditionalism that has made them stand the test of time as a premier dining destination has started to expose some problems in the kitchen however. The famous bread basket was only half delicious, with the other half being dry and bland and much better suited for fish food thrown over the deck in hopes of drawing in a famous crocodile sighting. We had rubbery scallops with barely a sear, overcooked shrimp, and three pasta entrees that were delicious enough, yet uninspired and almost indistinguishable from one another. The overwhelmingly large menu needs to be stripped down, and the old and tired recipes desperately need an injection of modern cooking techniques and innovation.
Lorenzillo's used to be as good as food gets here, but the culinary revolution has long since overtook the Mexican Caribbean. Chefs are pouring their beating hearts and souls into everything from hole in the wall taco joints to elegant food fusion restaurants, providing meals of exceptional quality at all price points. We all very much enjoyed our dinner here, but nothing was as noteworthy as the actually dining atmosphere itself. A place this beautiful deserves food just as awe-inspiring, or I fear it may be left covered in dust as a memorial to the old-world elegance of...
Read moreVery disappointed. Recommended by my tour guide because it was my friend's birthday and she wanted a great lobster. We drove 45 mins from Playa Del Carmen to enjoy what we thought would be an amazing experience. The IG page looks amazing. Unfortunately, with going so far, you can't control the traffic. So we had to reschedule our reservations a few times and they were accommodating.
Once we arrived there were probably a few people remaining but they stayed open late so it wasn't a problem. We ordered appetizers and drinks with no problem or so we thought. Be prepared make sure you are clear and concise on what you want, there is a language barrier. The servers we had didnt speak great English, so we didn't get what we thought we ordered.
Once they screw up and you don't correct them IMMEDIATELY , they will CHARGE YOU.
On a positive note, the scallop and guacamole tostadas are the Bomb! and the shrimp scampi was decent. However, it all went wrong when the 2 lobsters arrived. Again... language barrier moment that ultimately will affect how your meal turns out. The Lobster WAS DRY AND FLAVORLESS. My friend's daughter took one bite and realized it was not delightful. My friend however was determined to eat hers because it was her birthday. We told the server however he got the manager because it was the $100 lobster. The Manager was very condescending and UNACCOMMODATING FOR 45 MINS OF GOING BACK AND FORTH. His disposition was very Judgy as if we came to eat for Free! As we overly explained, we are more than blessed to have to seek free opportunities to eat. We came with good intentions to eat and drink well. However, he insisted that the cook in the kitchen was more credible than the people eating the food.
Long story short. Don't waste your money when there are other fabulous restaurants on the strip to...
Read moreWife and I came in for an early dinner. Literally stumbled on the place looking for something to eat on our way back to the All-in-One resort where we stayed. Were seated despite not having a reservation and smelling like a day in Cancun, in shorts and t-shirt. After thought was, we should have made a reservation and came in better dressed. Just to show the proper decorum for Lorenzillo's. We appreciated the hospitality shown. Apologies to Lorenzillo's for our casual dress.
Please look at the photos posted by other patrons as our photographs will not provide any further evidence of the beauty of the property, nor the plating and appearance of the food. I can tell you the food was amazing! It was a smorgasbord of flavors from bread at start of meal to final dessert. Of course we paired with some sparkling water and a nice 2018 Josh Cab Sauv.
The service was 5-star. I've been to maybe a couple of US restaurants in my lifetime where the service was this good. The service is such that we didn't feel our dinner was being constantly interrupted by 'can I get you anything else' but more of a silent topping off of wine/ sparkling water glass, removing finished plates, dirty utensils, scraping crumbs from the cloth between meal courses, returning with course appropriate plates / utensils while insuring we were free to consume and enjoy the multi-course meal with all leisure available.
Many compliments to the staff at Lorenzillo's. A well oiled machine providing a luxurious dining experience at half the cost of the same experience in US. We paid $200 US which included a handsome $30 US tip. Next time in Cancun, we will definitely pay a visit and plan to be dressed accordingly. Thank you Lorenzillo's! Thank you for our most wonderful dining...
