I SO want to give this place a 5-star rating as for three years I have been a regular customer and appreciate the couches (though worn) as a great place to meet and chat with friends. The trees and the whole environment in the plaza is quite nice.
However, recently a waiter charged me two different times - even two different prices. One was a mistake, and when I went to the manager to get a refund, he flatly refused, saying that the waiter “didn’t do it.”
I went back two more times, speaking to another manager, who was less cruel and more friendly, but still not interested in truly taking responsibility. He indicated that he wanted me to take care of it through my bank.
Both managers didn’t offer me a free coffee for my trouble, nor did they REALLY seem concerned that their cafe had literally robbed me.
I am extremely hesitant to come to this cafe again, nor recommend anyone else to come here. As there is a lack of integrity, and perhaps a “soulless” feeling of being a money maker off of...
Read moreI had very high hopes about this cafe after reading such positive reviews but sadly the service was extremely disappointing. Unfortunately I am not a Spanish speaker and although I do not expect service staff to speak English staff should at least try to make themselves understood to non Spanish speaking tourists. The young waiter who served me made no effort to understand me or give good service and he seemed more interested in joking and playing around with his fellow colleagues than supplying good service. The poached egg and bacon breakfast was decent although on the expensive side for the portion served; the flat white coffee was very good. I paid by card and when the waiter asked if I wanted to add a tip (the check boldly was stamped tip not included) I was unable to give 5% as I was told the minimum option available on the card reader was 10% even though 5% was shown. I left a tip in cash but would have gladly given more had the waiter been trained to offer...
Read more3 stars for location, decor and ambiance. The menu options here are strange, I ordered an egg and avocado "toast" and this was served to me. If I wasn't starving, I would 100% send it back to the kitchen. That toast was drenchedddd in what tasted like a warm chipotle mayo? Ugh just terrible. Why don't some chefs understand that simplicity is everything? I couldn't taste the poached egg, the avocado, the toast, nada. I basically ate warmish chipotle mayo. Haven't tried anything else here, but menu did not look promising. The 3 stars are for the coffee and the boujiness of the interior design. That's it. I'd say skip. Go to 500 noches downstairs, go to la tertulia for far better-balanced food for half the price, go to Belil and Aguacate for much better...
