I've been coming here for several months, but about a month ago, things changed a bit. I've dined in a couple times, and when I got my own apartment here, I began getting takeout once or twice a week. I was always greeted warmly, and they started adding some free tortillas to my orders, which was so nice of them.

Then the hostess that had been there left, and a new girl started. I wanted to eat there tonight, I really wanted to have a nice meal say a restaurant, and my diet can be limiting for that. On the way there, I got an uncomfortable feeling... See, the last several times I've been in there, the service has not been great. It's actually been so off-putting I don't feel comfortable going back. I found a similar experience to another recent review. The girl seems endlessly annoyed at doing anything, even pushing a few buttons on the register screen. Then she seems annoyed when I try to pay. I would have to wait, even when the place was empty to even be asked what I want. I haven't been going near closing time, so that excuse won't work, and it's been several times now I've received this kind of service. I no longer feel very welcome in Te Quiero Verde. Eating out, even for takeaway, is a special thing for me. It's not worth the extra time and money if I'm going to be made to feel like a bother instead of a valued customer.

I really hope she can take the criticism and work to improve. It's a hospitality job, and people go places they are made to feel welcomed. I've worked in hospitality and know some days you have to force a smile a little more than others, but it is off-putting when the staff seems disgruntled all the time. It's really too bad, and I hope this can change so that I can enjoy a dining...

The food was pretty good, I had the vegan tacos and liked them a lot. However, the service was really unfriendly and unprofessional.

We arrived around 9:30 so close to closing time and it was quite busy. We were told we could still get some takeout which is fine. There's an extra charge for takeout, which we haven't seen anywhere else but there wasn't a lot of vegan choice at that time otherwise so we accepted that. The person working got our order wrong in two ways and wouldn't at first accept that she got it wrong. The communication was really unfriendly and unprofessional, and she wanted to charge extra (which we could overhear her talking in Spanish with the other staff, who told her not to do that). We finally got our food and drink, which tasted good at least.

We do not recommend this place unless they change their approach to customer service, there's other vegan/vegetarian places in town with friendly service and better food.

Edit: contrary to the response the extra charge was 40 pesos (two charges, one was 10, the other 30 pesos), not sure why they would state incorrect information here. The restaurant was of course busy at the time, but there were still some empty tables, so definitely not at capacity. Therefore, I changed my rating from 2...

Terribly bad experience. These people obviously don’t have any passion for food, the food was bland and tasteless and the service negligent and cold.

First: The green juice had big chunks of celery in it that I had to either chew or spit out. When I pointed it out to the waitress she just said, in an irritated way that made me feel like I was being unreasonable and overly picky: “Ok what do you want me to do, should I blend it more for you?”

Don’t serve a “juice” with big chunks of vegetables in the first place!

Second: The vegan Alfredo was a catastrophe. Pasta was over cooked, sauce bland and grainy, no flavour, just not good. Nuts should have been thoroughly mixed to a cream.

We couldn’t finish it and asked for the bill. The waitress didn’t even look at us, like she hated her job and couldn’t care less if we were satisfied or not. I said “I’m sorry, we didn’t like the food.” Her response: “It’s ok!” And proceeded to charge us. No questions about what we didn’t like or if we wanted something else instead.

As a restaurant owner myself I would NEVER let my customers pay if they leave the food half way and politely say that they where not happy with the food.

Not...

Top notch vegan prepared Mexican dishes. We had enfrijoladas (tortillas covered in frijoles, these were stuff with cheese) and molletes (toasted bread roll topped with beans, cheese and pico de gallo), with a coffee each offered with a selection of soy, coconut or almond milk, which came steamed to the side to pour in yourself. The enfrijoladas come with fried banana on the side, which is absolutely to die for and should be ordered at every available opportunity - these were a good example of them. Though the dishes are traditional, they felt like they had modern twists, for example the cheese on the molletes was a crisp, round disc, capitalising on the different properties of a plant based cheese to create a distinct savouriness and texture. Options for scrambled tofu and the addition of vegan chorizo puts Te Quiero Verde a step above many other vegan restaurants I have experienced. This should be an essential stop for any veggies and vegans visiting the area.

Finding food as a traveling Mexican vegetarian can be very hit or miss. However, there are many dishes in traditional Mexican cuisine that can be very delicious, vegetarian, and healthy. This restaurant is one of a handful in San Cristobal that offers an all vegetarian menu, so it makes picking something all the easier. Their soup of the day that particular day hit the spot on a cold and rainy afternoon and was delicious. The veggies were cooked perfectly. However, I was disappointed in their enchiladas. They seemed bland and I would've loved for them to actually be spicy. The rice was also bland and I couldn't finish it. Their fried plantains were probably the most enjoyable part of this. I would give this place props for even having vegan Mexican options, but it's lacking love and flavor.
