El Mesón de Ensenada — Restaurant in Ensenada

Avoid this place! We planned on coming over here for dinner because we saw this place driving by the day before and we thought it was pretty. The worst mistake ever!!! We were standing by the podium looking at the menu on the sidewalk wondering if is a self seating restaurant or you have to wait for a hostess. No one ever came out and ask, the restaurant wasn't even busy. We decided to grab a sit inside since there was a lady at the entrance and servers around but nobody acknowledge us. It's like the 5 of us were invisible. We grabbed a table and waited and that's literally it, no menus, no drinks offered no one ever came to the table we even tried to make eye contact with the 3 people that we saw working there and after 20 minutes we decided to leave, we told the lady begind the counter what happened but she just didn't care, no...

I have yet to eat there —only went in for an Artisanal beer. I have, in fact, had the honor of obtaining two hand made delicious tortillas to enjoy with a lunch I was having next door at Restaurant Clara. Mauricio, at the bar, was just great and very informative. Abraham bringing me the menu (not eating that day) was extremely pleasant. And the best part was dealing with the owner, Perla, on my second visit for the purpose of obtaining the two tortillas to eat them next door. She was so nice she gave me a third one, even though I only wanted two —but what the hell, I ate all three, against my better judgement —only because they were so good!! Cheap American style 'Mexican' food. We came with kids, accommodated us, but made promises about their food that they could not keep (ie - allergies to anti caking agents, sugar). After asking two people they said that they don't marinade. Turns out it was SO obviously marinaded in something heavy in sugar. Kids plain rice had canned veggies and yellow stain from bouillon cubes tasted like salt. They tried to charge for to go boxes and extra for a plain taco plate with just S & P.
