Go with a friend, pay in Pesos, get something from each menu, bring a wet nap as the napkins won’t cut it, don’t forget or skimp on the sauces, you can buy them as take home when you pay.
It’s easy to see why this place runs out pretty much daily, they are jamming 10am to early afternoon every day except Tuesday. When they run out, they run out, so don’t come probably after 2. There are no/few chairs as everyone eats on their feet. It’s a unique way to do things since you have a cocktail line for ceviche and a tostada line. It helps to go with others, so you can get some cocktails or ceviche in the much faster/shorter line while someone waits in the longer tostada line. The drinks are self serve and sit behind one of the cooks. The prices are reasonable considering their variety and freshness and they’ve been around 60 years with not much changing. You eat first, then pay and it’s a bit of an honor system. I don’t know anyone who has attempted or seen anyone dine/dash, so the wrath I’m not sure about, but I’m certain it’s swift and firm.
The items that many don’t get alone is the mussels, sea urchin, sea snail, sea cucumber, abalone. Abalone bc it’s seasonal. The other simply because texturally even many seafood lovers can’t take the chew or squish. I tend to stay away from white fish since it’s plain and something I get stateside or cook at home. I rarely eat white fish raw. Campechana is the feast with tuna ceviche, shrimp, octopus, sea snail, scallops, mussels, clams for 100 pesos, it’s a lot to handle and probably not the best if you only like certain things. 170 pesos for a Large cocktail with like 9 shrimp, a seafood variety of whatever you desire. Avocado is not a big deal like it is elsewhere and is a nice addition to anything, but the shrimp salad, it ends up being way too creamy.
Some of the names are too long for what little Spanish I know, so I’ve butchered many an order, so with such a small menu you’d think you could go 1-4 on the tostadas. The value is there because when you see oysters, clams and the black clam on the half shell for 25-50 pesos you really see where the menu item is the way to go instead of build your own of only one protein. Black Clams aka blood clams were something you could not get in the US until 2014 after a 70 year ban was lifted, so if you’re from the states that’s a must, even many purveyors just across the border where I’m from don’t have them. The simple ingredients and the freshness of the seafood are what you come for, if you are looking for spices and herbs and marinades, get a steak somewhere else, that’s doing disservice to the seafood.
The staff is cranking, so service is matter of fact, but when you pay the owner behind the cart she’s sweet and kind and knows what she’s doing. I almost overpaid one time and she corrected me.
It’s worth a visit, but maybe not a must for every visit. There are good and great mariscos around, but this one is a little more immersive and about...
Read moreI’ll start by declaring that I had the most incredible Tostada experience of my life at this vibrant eatery. Visiting with a group of friends and family, every single person in our party was thoroughly impressed with the dishes they ate.
The unique setup of the eatery invites patrons to gather around the cart and enjoy their meals while standing, creating an energetic and convivial atmosphere. As you savor your Tostada, you can't help but notice the chorus of satisfied diners around you both locals and tourists, all relishing in the freshness and quality of their meals.
My personal favorite was the Singapore Tostada, which truly stood out in terms of flavor and presentation. However, the eatery also offers the option to customize your Tostada with an astounding array of seafood choices, ranging from octopus and scallops to oysters, shrimp and more. It's evident that they take great pride in their selection, and their commitment to freshness and quality shines through in every bite.
Some people may understandably be wary about consuming seafood from a street-side stand; however, let me put those concerns to rest. This remarkable eatery has a nearby restaurant where they store their fresh seafood supplies. This ensures that they can replenish their cart with top-quality ingredients whenever necessary, maintaining the high standards they've set for themselves. Furthermore, I know that some travelers tend to experience digestive issues when eating in Mexico, but I'm happy to report that after my Ensenada trip, I returned home feeling perfectly fine. This speaks volumes about the cleanliness, quality, and care that this establishment puts into its preparations and offerings.
To enhance the experience, patrons can select from a variety of salsas, including the house-made peanut salsa, which I wholeheartedly recommend. It's no surprise that we were drawn back to this remarkable eatery twice during our three-day Ensenada trip - it is simply too good to resist. So, if you're in the area, do yourself a favor and treat your taste buds to an unforgettable Tostada adventure at this...
Read moreThis restaurant is Ensenadas greatest as the great chefs that have been here say it's a five star of a restaurant with affordable prices; Anthony Bourdain to mention one of many great Chefs.
As a Baja 500 aficionado this year decided to go with my family and it was a day I did not feel like cooking at our Airbnb, we had seen trophy trucks, rails, trucks, bugs; a very tiring morning to say least, so we decide to go out to lunch. One of our great friends said that there was a place she had tried a while back and was a great seafood place to eat so we head out to la Guerrerense ...it was 10:15 am a tad early, but Maria asked us to take a seat and they would be right with us as soon they where done setting up to open; restaurant opens at 10:30am and by 10:25 am Maria was explaining everything on menu even specials and off we went. I must say that I was very impressed with this lil cosy place to have lunch w Fam Bam...all we tried was delish and outstanding especially the hot sauces which I had to try close to all of them as I am a fan of salsas "delish" and their most spicy w habanero chile was my fav... thank you Maria for taking the time to explain all the food and salsas that we should put on our food to compliment our tacos and or food to my family. Desserts where to die for as the corn flan was my fav w a cup of cafe de holla so out of this world. In closing I would take any of my Fam Bam and friends to this great place. Once again thank you for a...
