Fresco - Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Isla Holbox

While guests at the hotel, we enjoyed most of our beach days at this wonderful Beach Club.

We had no idea the number of people who don’t stay here but come to enjoy the amenities, view and service. It was never too crowded and most people adhered to social distancing.

Breakfast - the waffles were not good. Too thick. My son refused to eat them and opted for Nutella and apples until lunch. The adults were okay but it wasn’t the best so we figured if we are paying we would go off sight.

Lunch - everything leaves more to be desired. Just come for the beach views and maybe the drinks. Eat elsewhere.

While eating in the bar and grill, we had tons of birds flying all around us along with flies. It was not a pleasant breakfast. And it was troubling given all the other places we’ve eaten where we didn’t have all the birds and flies. The birds can get ruthless.

Outside of eating, the hotel/beach club does a fantastic job cleaning the beach from seaweed. There are kayak and paddle boarding amenities available to hotel guests, free of charge. Additionally, the lounge chairs are really lovely. You have to get out EARLY to secure a front row on the lounge chairs but the other chairs aren’t bad either. Service is okay at the beach. Sometimes we had to go to the bar to get a server. Drinks were pretty good.

Beach. I didn’t find the beach particularly great at this location. It was clouded due to a number of back to back storms and rainy days. I enjoyed the beach at cafe Del Mar down the road and I enjoyed it on the North side of the island near Nubes where you could go out on the sand bank. Given that the island itself is a sand bank, the water isn’t necessarily gorgeous to begin or end with. It’s okay but it doesn’t compare to the other Islands or Quintana Roo beaches along the Rivera Maya - Xpu and Akumal being my favorite. Yet, the experience of Holbox - during the day and during the night - is just without comparison. It was perfect for my November holiday.

If I came back, I would definitely stay at the Mystique Blue and enjoy my beach days but I’d most likely avoid a full meal at the Bar & Grill.

So disappointing! We stayed at the hotel for a week and were chronically disappointed by the food offerings. Night 1: My partner had the lobster pizza. Lobster was rubbery and fishy. Crust was meh at best. Poor quality cheese. Not worth the price at all. He was completely finished by the time my meal came out. I ordered fettuccine and shrimp. What I got was undercooked spaghetti in a tasteless cream sauce. I sent it back. It was replaced by another shrimp dish that was flambéed with mezcal. All presentation, no substance.

We tried to have lunch several times at the beach club but the menu felt too risky given the under cooked pasta from the previous night. Hamburger was grey and quesadillas had the same blah cheese as the pizza.

Why is there soup on the beach lunch menu? We had to ask for the grilled cheese from the breakfast menu at lunch.

Fruit plate was decent the first 2 times but the third time we ordered they didn’t have the ingredients.

Our included American breakfast varied depending on which waiter served us. Yesterday it included this…today it doesn’t.

Stumbled across this beach restaurant yesterday evening during a sunset beach walk. We were greeted warmly by the staff and decided to have dinner here.

What a stunning view of the sun sinking into the turquoise ocean!!

The Manager and staff were attentive and friendly making us feel very VIP the moment we walked in.

Excellent menu and service. I had the chicken breast and my friend had the shrimps. We were offered complimentary amuse-bouche before our Bell Pepper Bruschetta arrived. The red wine and beer selection were excellent too.

The serving of the Shrimp dish was very entertaining. Lights are dimmed and waiter delivers and served the shrimp lit in blue flames.

The entire evening was exceptional and 5 star. If you’re looking for the most romantic sunset dinner venue to woo your partner, this is the place!
