The new owner Gavin has added some nice touches to the old Que Pasa, removing the pool table and poker tables and adding more dining tables. A nice splash of colour and neon have added a great feel.
The kitchen offers an excellent variety of food options. I had the wonderfully loaded Tacos el Pastor ($130) for 3 and my wife had the Chicken Strips with a huge side of fresh cut fries ($240). Friends had the Away ($200) burger and by all reports was well prepared and tasty. All prices are fair and competitive considering the impact inflation has had here (and everywhere).
The spend per person on food only was about $200.
The drink menu, including the essentials, also offers a long list of cocktails.
Service was attentive and very friendly. Gavin spent time talking to the patrons and spent time at our table sharing his back story. His mother was in town for a visit and also worked the room. A very nice family feel.
One small complaint was the food service. Orders were brought to our table randomly with some of us finishing before others were served. It's always nice when everyone is served at the same time. I don't think this issue is unique to Awaysis.
Extra effort is being made to book all the regular local bands and a few extra touches. The Availables followed by The Lovers had the...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to trying this place, and I'm sad to report that it was a pretty big disappointment. We came for lunch, we were the only customers in the restaurant, and it took an hour and a half (1:30 to 3:00pm) for us to receive our food (3 sandwiches, 2 burgers). The menu does not list all of the ingredients on the sandwiches - one person in our party ordered a sandwich that did not have mayo listed in the ingredients (the other sandwiches on the menu did have it listed), and then when she asked if she could have bread without mayo on it when the sandwich arrived with mayo, the employee replied, "well, why didn't you order it without mayo in the first place?" Honestly, other than that, the food was fine (nothing to write home about, but fine for the price), but if you have anywhere to be in the next 3 hours, I would advise giving this restaurant a miss or you probably won't...
Read moreI have tried this twice since they added "The Chicken Coop" restaurant run by the Whiskey Kitchen. First time, the Mac & cheese was cold and had to send it back. The fries were over cooked. My caesar salad was good but only had 2 croutons. Second time was worse - Went on a Saturday at 5pm and they were out of chicken - in a place called the Chicken Coop. I ordered the Mac & cheese again and a caesar salad. The Mac & cheese was watered down and was not very good.....the caesar was yellow/white lettuce, no croutons, too much grated cheese and bland - I sent it back. The chicken arrived a little later so I decide to order the chicken nuggets - that actually came out as strips and were so overcooked the breaded just crumbled into pieces and the chicken was tough.....in addition, the amount of chicken was super tiny. I sent it back,...
