You know that gooood place you don't want EVERYONE to know about so that its not crowded the next time you come back? ...but its too good not to share? THIS is ThAT Place!
Looked at the menu photos first seemed reasonably priced with a good variety of the standard American breakfast items (pancakes, French toast and omlettes) plus Mexican desayuno options. Sooo unexpected there were many things about this place I LOVED. Servers friendly and food is fast. The highlights....
#1 GIANT iced coffee! Served fast and with a large side container of cream. Plus cheep 1.44 usd 30 pesos plus we were offered more after we paid.
#2 FAAARENCH toast. I am a French toast freak. No shame. That is my breakfast litmus test. Lets just say...Its so good ill be coming back tomorrow for it. Components: The Bread= quality on point, large, fresh, fluffy ×2. Prepared with usual egg soaking plus something extra! A dusting of nut or something crumbles that gave it a great flavor and texture like it was candied. Served with fruit and 2 pieces of bacon. Sometimes the maple syrup in Mexico tastes weird or fake...what came with the dish was not that.
#3 The small touches. +FANS and AC kept us cool if you've been in PVR the importance of this goes without explaining. ++ purse or bag hooks!!! Yes they are a thing! For the restraunt they save space and keep your items off the floor see photo. It's just this bit of care and thoughtfulness that really make me smile and enjoy my time in places like this. +++small open kitchen- the staff of 3 on the line did things without much audible communication...they were like a finely tuned machine. I always appreciate this open kitchen design. It really felt like a cafe. nothing hidden or questionable things going on behind closed doors.
Covid. Masks, temperature taken, and...
Read moreImpeccable service. I was seated quickly, they followed orderly steps of service and quickly set and bussed my table. It felt effortless. Obviously highly trained.
High quality atmosphere. The decor is elevated, educated, and traveled. It's air conditioned. The customers are upper middle class locals and erudite foreigners.
The food is good. They use high quality ingredients. The jugo verde is the best one I've had. It's nuanced and complex, not overly foamy. The coffee is fresh and well balanced, not acidic. The eggs are perfect, the omlette would make Jacques Pepin proud. The ham was well cooked. The rosemary fries were some of the best I've ever had. The fruit salad was cut to order using surprisingly fresh fruit.
Onto my criticism: they should've toasted the bagel. The knife used on the tomatos needs sharpened. The openface sandwich had the layers bagel, avacado, tomato, ham, eggs and the avacado/tomato layers made the entire thing feel unstable, the ham and eggs wanted to slide off. It was difficult to eat, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to use a fork and knife or my hands.
Overall, solid 5*, the criticisms I offered are all easily fixed. I would...
Read moreI have been to Mi Cafe multiple times for lunch and the food has always been solid. I like the fresh taste. However, it is no wonder the service/host gets such bad reviews. I was there a few weeks ago and the restaurant was quite full about 20 minutes before the lunch shift closed. I wanted to be seated and the owner/host at the door refused to seat me saying that the kitchen was closed. When I politely asked why the kitchen closed early as I pointed to the closing time posted, he ignored me. I asked again and he said abruptly and curtly said that the staff had to go. His demeanor was so rude and his attitude so bad that I told him I would never return to his restaurant. Not when another very good and friendly lunch place called Salud is just around the corner. Since I live in PV, I started talking about my experience with friends and they said that the owner is cold and rude. He seems to be bad for his own business. I had not met the owner before and will...
