I want to give this place a better rating, but the speed of service would have to improve dramatically for me to do so. We went for lunch and there was only 1 other table occupied when we arrived. We ordered two lunch specials, and the wait was very long just to get food ordered, but even longer to have the food served. I do realize that things move a bit slower in Ajicic, but I found it to be unacceptably slow. The tables that came after us also seemed a bit annoyed at the lack of responsive service, which was unfortunately because the staff were actually quite pleasant. The food tasted quite good as well, but I would not return if the service did not improve. Also, the dessert was overcooked and the mango would have been better served natural, instead of being cooked. I had just been in Thailand three months prior and ate mango sticky rice pretty much every day, and the mango was never cooked. I offer these small suggestions in hopes that management will see that small changes can make a big difference, especially when the food is already...
Read moreI have traveled in Thailand, so I admit that my standards are very high for Thai food. I stopped in for lunch and found the ambiance of the place restful and very comfortable in the back patio under shade cloth and large umbrellas. The waiter was friendly and efficient. I got the Tom Kha Gai soup which was an excellent blend of perfectly-cooked vegetables, coconut milk, and plenty of Thai basil. I also got the Pad Ped stir fry, which was delicious, though the flavorings were very similar to the soup. My mistake for not trying something with very different ingredients. The two dishes were enough food for two meals. Si, I am lucky and have a meal for tomorrow! It came to over 500 pesos, which was rather steep for a bowl or soup, a main course, and a Thai iced tea, but I think they do not expect people to order two dishes. Anyway, everything was first rate quality and delicious. I will go back and try a couple of other dishes. Solid 4 stars...
Read moreBasil Cafe (formerly Pian Thai) is now in a new much larger location just the road from its previous location. The new space was formerly home to David's Cafe'. Here is my orignal review almost a year ago, and updated after visiting and enjoying the new location: Excellent - Healthy and Delicious food. The restaurant is much larger than the original small and cozy, yet the food and the service continues to be warm, friendly, and excellent, the washroom always seems "just cleaned!" and there is a peaceful ambience to the space. Sometimes when a business changes location, the menu, or other variables, the magic can break. I am so happy to say, the only change I can report is the name, location and the number of seats available. This is a win win for everyone - great food, service, atmosphere, with increased seating capacity. I enjoy eating here - sometimes with friends and sometimes alone - to eat,...
