All went well until our orders weren't brought out as asked and our waiter demanded a bigger tip or he wouldn't let us leave with a drink my girlfriend had asked for to-go that was already paid for. I will admit we didn't tip generously this time around. We felt our service wasn't up to the normal standard we are used to at El Solar. In this case we tipped what we thought was deserved in an attempt to show the management our opinion on the service provided. However, on our way out the waiter stopped us and said he wouldn't allow us a to-go cup because the tip wasn't enough. He then proceeded to explain how if he didn't receive enough tip, the establishment will take out the difference from his salary. Not my problem, earn your tip, don't expect it. If the kid is right and I am obligated, per the establishment's requirements, to pay a certain % of tip, there should be a sign easily visible telling the customer that he or she needs to pay more than a certain % tip regardless of service level and amount consumed, or at least let us know our opinion doesn't matter. I do not think it is morally fair to demand a higher tip for a service, in a sense, removing my liberty to have an opinion of the service. On the other hand however, I may not have the best judgement. I am receiving the service so I should at least be entitled an opinion of the service and should be able to, in one way or another, give my feedback of the service through a tip, right? Seems like a step backwards in terms of improving the customer's overall experience at...
Read moreSo, on my way back to my hotel across the street, I decided to stop in for a couple of beers. I was very dissatisfied with their level of service, or should I say, lack of service. As I walked in, I noticed there were very few customers there, but also noticed 3 people behind the bar and 4 servers walking about. I was not greeted nor offered a table,so I just found my own table and sat down, thinking, someone will come and take my order. I had to motion to one of the girls to come over, but she never offered a menu. I decided to just enjoy my beer. When I was ready for a second beer, again, I had to motion for someone to come over. When I was ready for the check, where was the server? There she was, playing cards on the bar counter with her coworkers! Wow! After finally getting her attention, she gave this 'can't you see I'm busy' look and motioned for one of the bar staff to bring my check. Needless to say, i left no tip, and first and last time I'll be...
Read moreStaff told me I looked "put off" or "not into it" which was kinda rude and not relevant. He had a weird insecure energy about him and projected that on to me... I was excited to be there, relaxed, looking at the view down the beach... I'm like just hanging out and zoned out a bit... understandable after a meal, but then making commentary is so unecessary and unprofessional. Food was good tasting, but tacos were too soggy to eat. Salsa with chips was good.
The woman waitress tried to make us feel welcome and she is very nice. Also they tried to charge us for avocado we didn't order... we really didn't order it, 100 percent. I just moved to PV down the street, but I was kinda disappointed by this experience. 3 stars...
