An exceptional place We got there without planning and it was a nice experience. We were going to our hotel to rest after visiting a lot of places in Guadalajara. However, we were starved because I’d not eaten dinner. So in the way to our hotel we found “La tequila” restaurant and we decided to enter. When we enter to the restaurant, we saw a very old-fashion but at the same time elegant architecture style. For us, it was fabulous and unique the view of the cave of the wine cellar through the crystal above you are walking on. About the quality of the food and beverages was excellent. All the dishes were hot when serving them. And also the flavor of the food was great. If we talk about drinks, in this restaurant you can find different kind of Tequila, Wine and Mescal or if you don’t want to drink alcohol you can ask for cocktails without alcohol or fresh fruit’s water. What about the staff? The waiters attended us very quickly and were so kind. For example, by the time they gave us the menu, another person had brought a tiny cup of shrimp soup. After a few time the beverages were already on our table. Also, they were always on the lookout for if we needed something as well as if you want to know more about the dishes you can ask the staff and they explained how the chef cooks the dishes. A piece of advice is that we noticed that it is better to make a reservation because many people arrive, we were lucky, even without having a reservation they did not deny us entry and gave us swift table. Finally, when we asked for the bill, we were stunned because the bill was not very expensive like we had thinking and they gave us for each person a glass of tequila for free. I absolutely recommend this place, do not forget to visit if you go or stay in...
Read moreYou MUST visit La Tequila Restaurante when you visit Guadalajara! The space is well decorated and has socially distanced tables so there should be no fear of eating inside. There are so many Instagram worthy places to take pictures and the food presentation is great too. We received so much nice information and education about Mexico, tequilas, and food preparation that I felt like we were on a food experience. This is thanks to one of the managers/head waiters, Emiliano. He was so welcoming towards me and my husband as tourists. He spoke to us in English and made us meek welcome. I told him right away that we didn’t want any worms to eat and we bonded over that laugh.
The drinks are brilliantly crafted in colorful variations with unique blends of ingredients. They taste like you will have to sell your home to pay for them, but no, La Tequila has fair prices that insist you over indulge.
The food was delicious and fresh. Dishes are uniquely prepared like my husbands steak that was wrapped in bacon and then a tower of salt. I think it was then baked underground or something. Haha! Go visit! They will tell you. The table side salsa preparation didn’t disappoint as we said we liked HOT salsa. That’s what they gave us. Don’t throw back a huge scoop unless your drink is nearby.
We had desserts, salads, and just tons of fun. We visited La Tequila twice in a week because it was so nice. I’m here for 4 more days. Maybe they will see me...
Read moreI thought the food was a bit overpriced for what it was. It had an upscale vibe, but I didn’t think the food was worth it. The service was awful, but to be fair we had a large group and I’m sure that was difficult.
Highlights:
Chips and salsa freshly made brought out at the beginning. The salsa had different spice levels. They make the salsa in front of you. There was also a cactus salsa that was nice.
I enjoyed a beef bone marrow and corn dish that I ordered. It didn’t blow my mind, but it was as the highlight of the different dishes that I tried.
Room for improvement:
The lamb soup that a lot of people seem to enjoy was very salty. I didn’t get the sense that there was much lamb in it. Just a lot of rice and salty broth.
The cricket / grasshopper quesadilla was ok but also overhyped by a lot of folks that go there regularly
The service was the worst part. We had a group of 18 people, and I understand that can be difficult to manage. But we put down a $5,000 peso deposit. The staff only took orders from half of our group and completely forgot the other half for a long time. The food took about an hour to arrive after everyone finally ordered. There were some tortilla plates brought out with empty tortilla containers. It was all around very chaotic. One positive thing was they did let us split the bill at the end despite how many...
