The Good: Quaint, clean, small restaurant with rooftop terrace dining Delicious and eye appealing appetizers and entrees The Bad: The NSN margaritas are watery I was overcharged 2x out of 4 visits. I let the first one slide, but was compelled to involve the owner who never apologized and only begrudgingly offered to "make it right" when I was forced to ask how he was going to resolve my problem. Chef doesn't know his own menu and actually lied to me twice in attempts to explain away menu/presentation conflicts. The chaotic and not updated promotions marketing. Their signature mud pie dessert tastes like sawdust. The Ugly: Chef verbally abusing and belittling staff in front of customers. This lack of respect and professionalism CAN make for a cringeworthy dining experience. Does The Good offset The Bad and The Ugly??? Not mine to call, but as for me, with ALL the excellent dining choices in Puerto Vallarta, I won't be going back.
**UPDATE In light of Ownerships long diatribe below, I simply have this to say. Every word I wrote in my review is a truthful, and actually kindly, representation of MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE over 5 separate visits to No Se Nada. I WAS THERE and Mr. Owner is speaking as someone who was 1400 miles AWAY from the actual encounters and has been "briefed" by staff members whose jobs may depend on how they (mis)inform "The Boss". I am a retiree of 40+ years in the Hospitality Industry and have written over 200+ reviews of my world travels over the past year or so. I have no axe to grind, but ask yourself who DOES have something to lose by my honest review of 5 visits?? Please check my reviews... I have wasted all the energy I will on this reasonably insignificant situation, just bear in mind that Mr. Owner's rebuttal certainly reinforces the aptly named restaurant, "No Se Nada", "I KNOW...
Read moreI read reviews for No Se Nada before we took our family here and saw that there could be slow service. Decided to risk it. Shouldn't have. Not only that, overall the food was poor.
We arrived, a party of 6, around 5.30pm and I told the waitress the young children needed to eat soon (6 and 8 years old). The upstairs was fully booked but the downstairs, where we sat, was not busy. We ordered a plate of tater tots, wanting something straight away but not wanting to spoil appetites. (The tots were a bit greasy for my taste.) We then waited more than an hour for the main courses - 2 spaghetti salads, Vallarta Shrimps and 2 Surf and Turf. All those dishes cook quickly. I couldn't understand what the holdup was and have to think it is lack of organization and staff. The waitress was fully aware that we were waiting too long but it seems couldn't do anything about it. She offered us free water.
When the main dishes came, the steak in the Surf and Turf, which had been ordered medium rare was so raw it couldn't be eaten. Rather than spend even more time asking to have the dish recooked, we left as soon as we could for as we'd pointed out, we had children with us and had lost trust in the restaurant's ability to make a dish in a timely manner.
The waitress did bring one free dessert which the children devoured, in recognition of how long we'd waited. And when I mentioned to her that the meat had been inedible she of course said that we should have said something - which I was doing. The Owner had come to the table and asked if everything was okay and I told him to speak to my son (whose plate had most of the beef left on it.) He didn't.
This was a special farewell dinner out for us as a family and it was a...
Read moreThe food and drinks were excellent and absolutely delicious! If I could give 7 stars I would! Price: Our total was $64 USD for sparkling water, two drinks, two entrees, an appetizer, and the dessert. For the quality of food and drink we think that is very reasonable! Atmosphere: The kitchen is visible when you walk in and it’s small with what appeared to be just two chefs so if they’re busy, you’ll have a wait. However, the food is worth it! I appreciated being able to see where my food was being prepared and felt it was prepared with attention and purpose. The Staff were all very welcoming, kind and attentive. We weren’t able to sit on the terrace but the first level was cozy and breezy. Food: Our party had the red snapper, salmon, sopa tradicional, bourbon shrimp(incredible!), baked panela and dessert. Everything was carefully plated and the flavors of the various elements were obviously curated to complement each other. I’m American so I’m not positive how traditional the food and flavors are to Mexico but I’m inclined to think it’s more fusion. The portions are average and adequately filled us up. It’s highly unlikely you’ll have leftovers. Drinks: Our group had a couple beers, a mixed drink and two margaritas. The watermelon margarita tasted just like a slice of watermelon and gosh the hibiscus margarita had the most amazing floral...
