Tacos Sonorita Versalles — Restaurant in Jalisco

We had lunch here after discovering this restaurant quite by accident, located on what now is a large “restaurant row” along and near Calle España from Calle Francia all the way past Calle Hamburgo. The restaurant is large, and features both inside as well as outdoor seating in an interior courtyard flanked by an enormous tree and small waterfall. The entire restaurant is quite fun and attractive. They also have a separate room with a meat counter, offering various cuts of meat for take away sale. We ordered an al pastor pizza, consisting of al pastor meat and pineapple. Eight pieces to a pizza, it can easily feed two hungry adults. It was tasty. My friend ordered one of their large specialty hamburgers, and ate every bit of it. Our meal featured great food and service in a fun atmosphere. This used to be a 5 star place. A year later, I’m compelled to remove stars. Since the new owner took over the prices are higher, and the portion of meat on the tacos is noticeably reduced. That could be understandable if the quality was amazing, which it used to be, but we’ve been three times now and the pastor meat is always dry. Just a short step away from being like jerky meat. We have tried both piña colada and margarita and we could not discern any alcohol by smell, flavor, or effect. Really a bummer. This place is still good for atmosphere. If you just want to meet with friends, have a beer, and maybe a guacamole, this place is a decent choice.

Service was slow and employees totally disinterested in working. The restaurant was one of the dirtiest I have seen in years. The floors were nasty! All they need to do is use a broom and mop a few times a day.

They were not busy, and they didn’t cover the Al pastor trompo with a guard to shield from the coals, which only cooked the meat more and dried it out.

Our friend ordered a dish, the waitress forgot and then brought out a completely different item. All in all it took 45 minutes for her to get her food.

I don’t recommend this place. It’s my understanding they have a different owner than the one in the romantic zone, now that location is AMAZING. They need to step up their game here, I wouldn’t...
