My stay at Rosas & Xocolate Boutique Hotel and Spa in Mérida was a delightful experience that left a lasting impression, thanks to its unique charm and warm hospitality. Nestled in the heart of Mérida, this boutique hotel stands out with its breathtaking architecture and distinctive style. The fusion of colonial elegance with bold pink and chocolate-hued accents creates a visually striking ambiance that feels both luxurious and whimsical. Every corner of the property, from the lush courtyard to the meticulously designed rooms, showcases a thoughtful blend of modern sophistication and Yucatecan heritage. The attention to detail in the decor—think vibrant tiles, artisanal touches, and elegant furnishings—makes it a haven for anyone who appreciates aesthetic excellence. The staff at Rosas & Xocolate deserves high praise for their friendliness and professionalism. From the moment I arrived, they were welcoming, attentive, and eager to ensure my stay was comfortable. Whether it was offering recommendations for exploring Mérida’s vibrant cultural scene or accommodating special requests, their service added a personal touch that elevated the entire experience. The on-site amenities, including the spa and the restaurant, further enhanced my stay. The restaurant, in particular, served up delicious dishes that beautifully blended local flavors with a gourmet twist, making every meal a treat. However, there was one peculiar aspect of my stay that stood out for the wrong reasons: the hotel’s deposit policy. Upon checking in, they charge a deposit, which is fairly standard, but by the end of the stay, they retain a single cent from the refund. This practice felt odd and unnecessary, and it’s something I haven’t encountered at any other hotel I’ve stayed at worldwide. While it’s a minor amount and didn’t significantly detract from the experience, it left me puzzled and slightly annoyed, as it seemed like an unusual quirk for an otherwise polished establishment.Overall, Rosas & Xocolate is a fantastic choice for travelers seeking a boutique hotel with character, style, and heart in Mérida. The stunning architecture, exceptional staff, and unique vibe make it a standout. If you can overlook the odd deposit practice, this hotel is well worth a visit for a memorable stay in the Yucatán. I’d happily recommend it to anyone looking for a blend of luxury and...
Read moreWe had to leave after our first night. Unfortunately I have no positive things to say about this hotel except for the breakfast that is offered.
My family and I stayed in a deluxe room and a Rosas suite during the end of December and nothing met our expectations. The property is advertised as a boutique and design hotel but the rooms are rather dark, old and in urgent need of a renovation! The suite was surprisingly smaller than the deluxe room with only one chair to sit at while in the deluxe room had a couch and it felt a bit bigger. At both rooms there was very poor noise isolation - we could hear loud music, cars passing by the street and hotel traffic since the suite is located in the main building. The property feels outdated; in the rooms the air conditioning is super noisy and it is impossible to leave it on during the night since one can’t sleep because the fans - if turned off on the other hand, the room gets very hot. In the deluxe room, we were missing a nespresso machine and even after mentioning this to the staff, we didn’t receive any.
At this price, the hotel is an absolute rip-off. We talked to the owner Carlos about our concerns and his responses were totally ironic and not helpful. We were told that our family was sensitive to noise and that all hotels in Mexico have noisy air conditioning systems (which of course is not true). Carlos then ignored our complaints and went on enjoying his music and evening drinks. We have stayed at a lot of hotels in such a category but after this behavior, we had to leave the hotel since we couldn’t justify spending $350+ per night and tolerate such a rude response and disrespect from the person who „runs“ the hotel. The owner also mentioned to us that we were the first ones to raise these points after 10 years of running this hotel - just have a look at the negative TripAdvisor reviews and you’ll notice that we’re not alone.
There are great options to stay in Merida and this hotel is not one of them. I would strongly advise AGAINST staying here. Needless to say that this property doesn’t deserve to be in the...
Read moreAlright, but not worth the price
Firstly, this is a cute property with some nice design and is in a good location.
However it’s totally overpriced and lacking in service or experience. Overall, the staff weren’t welcoming and wifi is sporadic. There is no onsite parking (despite claiming there is) and street parking was quite difficult, felt unsafe and no help from staff.
Absolutely no reference or benefit to being Bonvoy Platinum status.
It was a special event so I decided to splurge for a suite which was a total waste of money. The room was tired (I understand it’s a heritage building but not an excuse for not updating or maintaining it) and hadn’t even been swept before our arrival.
Most frustratingly, I’d booked on the basis of the private terrace. But it’s not at all private. The terrace is a shared space with another room, with some planters to divide which do not create any privacy. Moreover, there is a door/window from the public hallway on to the terrace so anyone walking by can look in on you. Given usage of the terrace was a big part of my interest in the suite, it was completely useless.
I mentioned this on arrival and the staff were uninterested - a simple curtain could have been a massive help. I brought it up again when leaving and the guy “said I should have mentioned earlier” - which I had…
The ‘included breakfast’ is quite good quality but it’s limited - lots of extras or not included. Probably fine for most cases but having spent so much money on the room I didn’t expect to be charged for an extra coffee or some fruit…
Overall, a cute hotel that would be good in the moderate price range (I didn’t see a basic room) but when you pay high luxury prices one expects a lot more…
Update Further downgrading my review as they are a Marriott Bonvoy scam. Despite booking through the Marriott app and listing on the website as a participating hotel - they are denying they are a Bonvoy hotel and refusing to honour the...
