La Tratto Santa Lucía — Restaurant in Mérida

Visited with my partner Dec 2019. We had heard good things and were expecting good things but were sadly disappointed. We found the service very poor for what you would expect from a restaurant like this. Our server seemed to have a very poor grasp of his role, kept forgetting who had ordered what, and kept asking 4-5x if we would like to order drinks after we had made it clear that we did not. More importantly, the food: honestly I found it mediocre at best, and wholly below what I would expect from La Tratto. I had the linguini with mushrooms, pecorino, roasted leeks and truffle oil. While the description sounded lovely, my dish was over salted, lacked flavour and any interesting taste and most disappointingly, the truffle flavour did not come through at all. My girlfriend had the ravioli and they did a poor job of reducing the red wine sauce resulting in a strong, bitter alcohol taste that left the dish a flop We also had the mushroom pizza, which while cooked in a wood fire oven, lacked a crisped, golden, well cooked crust. Food was good although not typically Italian. We reserved a table and as soon as we got it we waited almost 30mins to be attended (they did give us the menu after having asked for it several times) the waiting time for the food was not too long and the food really tasted OK. Unfortunately during our dinner many street vendors - mostly children- with cigars or flowers constantly came to our table trying to sell something. The waiters seemed not to be bothered about them at all. When we got the bill after waiting for like 15-20mins after we asked for it, an additional service fee of 15% 'tips' were 'suggested / required' to pay. We refused to do so because we were not happy with the service and would give a lower amount of tips which the waiter refused to accept (because it was under 10%). I will start by saying this review focuses on the service provided by the restaurant, because their staff went above and beyond to help us during New Year's Eve.

We had already booked and placed our deposit for the New Year's Eve dinner when my family and I fell ill the day before. On the day of, some of us were not healthy enough to go out, but we also didn't want to lose the deposit or spend New Year's separated. When I went to speak with the manager, you could see how much care and attention to detail they put into the restaurant for that night. It would have been fantastic to have spent the evening there leading up to midnight. Because of our situation, the manager informed us that he would package the meal up so that we could have it at home. We had everything we ordered, and even the grapes for celebrating at midnight!
