El Tizoncito chain claims to have invented the al pastor taco. That may be true, or they may have been the ones to simply popularize this DF favorite; regardless, el Tizon is an obligatory stop if you want to know what standard tacos al pastor are supposed to taste like. Americans, you will quickly realize that the meat is neither chopped nor cubed; it's thinly shaved from a rotating spit, grilled by charcoal, and sandwiched between a pineapple (piña) skewered on top—dripping it's juices onto the meat—and an onion (cebolla) on the bottom—gathering the same delicious juices from above—both of which are also thinly sliced and come on the classic al pastor taco.
There's a chain of Tizoncitos across the entire city, but my favorite is directly next to the building I used to live in on the corner of Campeche and Tamaulipas for optimal people watching in Condesa. Free totopos, frijoles, and a flight of salsa comes...
Read moreI wont dare say these are the best tacos because I still have time in Mexico to find a better place but to date these are the best tacos de pastor I’ve ever had. You can also watch them make your tacos from the table it’s great. I’m allergic to corn but they accommodated my allergy with flour tortillas. I also got an order of seasoned onions (spring onions?). They are perfect to put on your tacos but if you are not super into eating just onion I recommend asking for a 1/2 order. It’s still the same price but less wasteful if you don’t plan on taking it to go or finishing it. This is probably the closest you will come to eating street tacos if you are not into standing on a corner and eating from a cart. (I definitely recommend eating as much street food as possible). The service was exceptional and fast....
Read moreIf you're looking to eat delicious tacos I. CDMX, you can't go wrong with El Tizoncito. The tacos here are delicious. They're street tacos, but sold in a little restaurant/fonda place. We went there on a Saturday night, it was crowded; we had to wait about ten minutes for a table. The place is located near other popular places, it seems to me that the young crowd likes to kick it around this area. The neighborhood felt safe. And the place looked very clean, which is a plus because we're always weary of where we eat, when we visit Mexico. Staff was friendly, and the guy serving the tacos al pastor was really nice. Tacos are small, but those are the real Mexican tacos, so don't complain, that's the norm. Oh and the salsas are excellent, too. Prices are...
