Leaving disappointed and feeling cheated.
This used to be one of the top bar chains in Mexico City; however, it’s really fallen from its throne. It used to be on my recommendation list for visitors, but now I’ll be strongly suggesting against it if anyone asks.
The last two times I’ve visited in Saturday nights the atmosphere has been dead - very empty and a bit try hard.
This last time I ordered a glass of wine and I was shocked to see the waiter pour me at best 2 ounces with a measuring device.. I jokingly asked him if he was saving the other part of my glass for later, and he replied that no this was the glass size (even turning on his flashlight in the dimly lit room to check where the line was marked on his measuring device). This was a $15 USD equivalent glass of wine. He looked utterly confused and responded that this was the bar’s rule - pour to that line.
Now I understand times are tough and everyone has to keep their margin, but this felt like robbery. If you really must, make the glass of wine $30 and then I’ll be the one to choose if I want to pay $30 for a glass of wine. Don’t sell someone a glass of wine, that they expect to be the standard 5oz pour, and then pour them 2oz. Seems like a symptom of them falling from grace as a desirable bar - need to make the money up somewhere.
This felt like I had been cheated. They are getting at least 10 glasses of wine out of a single bottle with this move. If they’re doing practices like this with a drink as obvious as wine, I’m sure they are 110% doing this with the mixed drinks they’re famously known for.
I’ll be sure never to spend any money with such an establishment ever again. I’d recommend so many other great spots that...
Read moreMy husband and I got a drink here tonight, and it absolutely ruined our evening. At first glance, it seems like a really nice, legitimate cocktail bar - fantastic decor, nice staff. However, they totally scam you. We sat down, and the waitress came over and asked us what we like to drink. She purportedly did not know English - which is fine, and we struggled to speak Spanish because we thought it would be rude of us not to try - and tried to sell us on their most expensive cocktails. She somehow sweet-talked me into getting a spicy margarita, just so she could put in a super expensive tequila I wouldn't have normally ordered. I didn't even want tequila, but thought I'd trust her since staff at a lot of craft cocktail bars often recommend drinks. She then picked for my husband a $20 (USD) gin and cocktail before he asked for the menu (for the 3rd time). I was ultimately charged almost $20 for a basic drink, just because she put "special tequila" in mine. It wasn't so much the money that bothered me, but how I was tricked into getting something. I felt so conned and ashamed, it totally ruined our evening....
