Come to eat delicious pancakes BUT go somewhere else for your main dish.
My original review for Niddo was written at the beginning of 2021. Since then I’ve dined here a handful of times, and I’ve come to the conclusion that Niddo has lost its edge. After today’s breakfast, I probably won’t come back unless someone visiting the city wants to check out this over-hyped trendy spot.
My only three recommendations: Obviously the pancakes Golden Milk Americano
Kinda recommended: Shakshouka. Just a delicious soup sauce with with no crunch texture. The bread that accompanies the dish is nowhere near enough.
NOT recommended: Croque Pepe. Felt like I was eating tasteless white bread, with almost tasteless cheese, egg and gravy. Choose ANY other entree.
The Good: Picturesque outdoor dining area at the main location and at the satellite location down the street. Aesthetically pleasing food and drink — modern meets rustic. Front of house are professionals at getting people seated. Niddo’s famous pancakes are amazing, fluffy, packed full of flavor and the crème fraîche is the perfect complement.
The Okay: Sometimes the center of the pancakes are undercooked. Personally, I don’t mind it but I know my girlfriend hates it. Long wait times on the weekend.
The Bad: The entrees lack defining flavor profiles. They look great in photos — however the taste is slightly above average just not in line with the prices or visual expectations. Today: Moldy raspberry topping on our pancakes. In terms of quality, portions, and service: Overpriced. Today: Waiter service is flakey. Our waiter completely forgot about our entrees and we had to wait an extra 25 minutes for it to arrive. Also forgot refills for water after requesting.
Bottom-line: There are way too many great restaurants in this area for Niddo to be THIS over-confident and...
Read moreI’m not surprised to see that I’m not the only person witnessing the attitude of people working at this restaurant/cafe. Yesterday I had a late breakfast there and everything was quite nice — yes it was overpriced and very loud, but that’s the new Mexico City standard. I came back today and wasn’t able to sit where I wanted to because I said I want to start with a coffee — I still needed 30 minutes fast. I didn’t like the other branch where they’ve sent me and came back to ask if I can sit where I want to. Unfortunately I was mistaken with a remote, American worker and was treated so poorly, that I can’t stop myself to not write this review. Owner told me, that I can “take a call” and have 10 minutes with my coffee (60 pesos per cappuccino plus service) because other people won’t be able to sit down and enjoy the food. First of all — I simply wanted to call my boyfriend, I’m not a remote worker, I wasn’t there with my laptop, I had to sit down and relax for a moment. I’m not American and I don’t “go to Starbucks” like I’ve been told. That’s not how you treat a person who comes back to your place. Not everyone has to order full menu at the very first minute of an afternoon break. Slow down, you definitely need to catch a breath and be more humble...
Read moreUpdating my review to reflect an extremely bad albeit offensive experience. Chose this location as a convenient place to have coffee/beverages with a friend. Both of us are residents— however I guess we looked like ‘foreigners’ prime for a scam. Long story short the server tried to charge me $105 pesos for a Topo Chico with lemon (it was meant to be a limondada however no sweetener of any kind was added or offered so just TC with lemon) . Again, I have a general idea of the going rate for TC/limonada. At most it should have netted about $70 pesos (which is what I’ve been charged at better restaurants not cafes).
Upon questioning about the absurd amount the server starts backtracking and making excuses for overcharging me. The most hilarious thing about the encounter is my friend had mistakenly gone to the other location. Ordered the very same thing and had a receipt for $60 pesos. Absurd.
In the end, he did revise the bill correctly but my friend and I both left with a bad taste in our mouths with this establishment. No one is entitled to a tip and it is not ok to try and extort one. Especially, since I would have given a more than fair tip...
