In a city where you can find the same tacos everywhere, Señior Harvey, the chef provides something different and amazing. His menu and tacos are inspired by his travels throughout Mexico and the world. He tries to take from the different cultures and different spices and prepare foods that are a representive and a mix of both many Mexican and other cultures.
I think he did a great job. He got his experience working at the best hotel restaurants in the city and from what I can rememberhas had other restaurants in the city in past. We did not try all of his tacos. However, we loved the octopus tacos, pulpa, and the Baja fish tacos. Some reviews commented on the flavoring of the tacos but the tacos are served with a well-curated amazing selection of salsas, from mild to extremely hot and we were encouraged to use them and I would encourage you! to try them also.
This restaurant was one of the only places we ate at where you can actually taste the alcohol in the drinks. We didn't try the dessert but reviews from others say it is very good.
We enjoyed talking with the waiter and the owner. The evening was wonderful and dinner memorable.
Yes, the restaurant is very small and we were extremely fortunate to walk by and grab a table because of a special event happening at the Zocalo that evening. The area was fairly free of people. I agree other reviews that the seating is tight. It's probably best for singles and couples.
So when I come back to Mexico City this first place I will try to return to. Hopefully I will...
Read moreWe’ve eaten at a few Michelin restaurants. The fact the Mexico still has none is a travesty. But we’re sure Taller Xilotl will earn a Michelin star soon. We could taste the freshness of each ingredient, perfectly blended in every bite by the French trained chef. The vegetarian dishes were phenomenal, not an afterthought like we find at many places. And the pride that went into our meal was apparent from the first bite. If anyone claims tacos are a simple dish, send them here and watch them eat their words.
The cozy environment added to the experience - as the owners made us feel at home. Just as we thought it couldn’t get better, we ordered dessert and watched the chef delicately garnish each plate with the attention that a surgeon gives to a patient. We ended up closing down the restaurant, but not before trying to convince to owners to open a spot in our city.
We truly cannot say enough about this place. Our only regret is that we can only leave them five stars for...
Read moreCame to try based on the high reviews. Comparing it to world wide cuisine, I thought it was over rated with almost a 5. I was therefore a little disappointed. Octopus taco came with one octopus piece and should have been two to even out the spices that came with it. The octopus was a little overcooked so it was too soft. Shrimp tacos did not have the freshest shrimp. Tuna was the greatest prepared from all I tried here. We ordered taco de pulpo, taco de Cameron de estilo, toast Ada de tartar, Cameron satay, Something that helped is that I came with the expectation that they served small portions so anyone who walked a lot that day and trying to recharge your energy, this place might not be the right place. It was a good place to try. I was hoping between restaurants to try...
