Dugarel Play’s Restaurant — Restaurant in Nayarit

My husband & I enjoyed dinner at Dugarel Plays for our anniversary. If you're looking for an exceptional restaurant with delicious food & a beautiful view, look no further; Dugarel is your restaurant. The staff is just the right amount of attentive & made us feel special after learning it was our anniversary. We didn't feel rushed & were able to enjoy drinks while listening to the waves & watching the birds dive into the bay. The food was amazing! The guacamole had the perfect amount of heat & lime. It was clearly fresh as was the pico de gallo. I ordered the seafood platter which came with 3 fish fillets, 3 halves of split lobster, 2 different types of shrimp, octopus, rice, mixed vegetables , and 2 sauces (drawn butter & olive oil with roasted garlic). I have a HUGE appetite but couldn't finish all of the seafood. I barely touched the rice & veggies. My husband ordered a rib eye steak with grilled shrimp. He felt full too but said everything was too good to not finish. They also gave us a large basket of buttered rolls which was warm & delicious. We both have a sweet tooth so we ordered dessert. Dave had a parfait type glass of strawberry & vanilla ice cream. It was creamy & the strawberry flavor was intense. I ate key lime pie which was tasty & light. Low season is a good time to go to Dugarels because it's not crowded. My understanding is that, during high season, they're incredibly busy. My friends ate there during high season & raved about the food. But they said if you want a great view of the water you probably need to make reservations. We went to Dugarels for the first time for appetizers & dinner with a friend. I have to say it was a very big disappointment. We will not be going back!!! Our friend got there first & went in to sit at a table inside. Waiter told him it was reserved. So he went to sit at another, reserved. He asked what table was available & waiter said the one by the rail. So he sat down there. Waiter then tells him he has to sit on the beach because he had his little dog with him. Apparently all upstairs tables were reserved but why he just didn't tell him dogs weren't allowed upstairs in the beginning, who knows. So we get down on the beach, sit at a table. Wasn't to busy maybe 7 tables total. Waiter comes 15 mins after we sit down to take our drink order, we ask for menus & he disappears. 10-15 mins later drinks arrive from a different waiter. No menus. 30 mins after we get our drinks the waiter comes back, still no menus, we order chips, salsa & guacamole. Waiter disappears again. While we are sitting there we are playing cards. Still waiting for our order & menus. 30 mins later we are done with our 13 round card game & still our appetizers have not come. Needless to say we are pretty ticked off & ready to go. Our waiter finally shows up, no food & proceeds to tell us they have no avacados. SERIOUSLY!!! We said, you should have told us 30 mins ago. We asked for our check, went upstairs, paid & walked out!!! We went & had dinner elsewhere. A lot better service & less expensive. We were there 2 hrs for just 3 drinks. This restaurant is on the beachfront and it is wonderful to watch the sunset from the top floor while having dinner. The red snapper was very good, however, the second time we ordered it the price was 150 pesos more than the first, for this reason we will not return, I hate getting ripped off. That said, the garlic shrimp was excellent and would recommend it. Do not get sucked in to ordering an appetizer of Guacamole and chips. They will bring you a bowl of chips and pico de galo gratis. The service is a bit shaky, I had to ask the waiter to bring the free chips and pico, he brought it a few seconds before the main meal, which was a waste. In addition, the charging more for the same fish on different occasions is a terrible way to treat repeat customers. Again, we...
