Cafe Nopal — Restaurant in Oaxaca

I never write bad reviews and I really don’t like doing so. But I’ve never had such bad service before and I want to make a complaint about it.

We came to eat with 3 persons. 1 person ordered an egg omelette, 1 person ordered a avocado toast, and I ordered a veggie burrito without cheese.

The guy came with 4 meals; 2x egg omelettes and 2x avocado toast. So that’s one meal too much.

And he gave me the egg omelette and I told him I ordered a veggie burrito without cheese. And he said the other person ordered 2x avocado toast instead of one. I told him this is not true.

I ordered a veggie burrito without cheese, I am vegan so I would NEVER order an egg omelette. He continued saying I ordered an egg omelette. He was not in any way willing to admit that he got the order wrong. Like I said I would NEVER order an egg omelette as I am vegan, he just got the order wrong.

He also said it’s because we ordered in English that it went wrong. I ordered in Spanish, not in English, and also as far as I know the word ‘burrito’ is the same in English as it is in Spanish.

He never offered any service to fix the problem, he didn’t offer to still make the veggie burrito for me, he just left me without any food.

The 1 star is because the food was good according to the other 2 people who did have food. But we all three thought this was terrible service and we will not be coming...

The cafe is super cute and on a nice quiet street. We enjoyed the food we ordered (lattes and apple cinnamon pastry were good) but the service was SO slow and disorganized that we barely got to enjoy our experience. We ordered a chocolate croissant and 20 minutes later we’re told they ran out, which is no problem, we were happy with a plain croissant instead. He said he’d check if they had any but he never came back to tell us. We eventually flagged him down to ask about the plain croissant and they were out of those too, so we ordered an empanada instead. We gave up on waiting for it after 20 minutes and went downstairs to pay and asked the woman downstairs for the empanada to go. All in all it was 1 hour and 15 minutes to receive 2 coffees and 2 pre made...

Had breakfast there a few times. Vegetarian burrito is good and so are the juices. I didn't like the veggie sandwich as much. Seating area is cozy. Staff is okay (manager is pretty nice but often there are several employees just hanging behind the counter while one waits to be served at a table.) My last time there there was an error in my order due to language barrier and the waitress seemed super annoyed. Also seems many people use it as an office space and you will literally have someone screaming in your ears at 8am because the manager doesn't feel comfortable reminding them its not a coworking...
