On our first day of our first trip to Oaxaca, we walked and checked out many places. We settled on this one because it is next door to the apartment we are staying in and their menu was casual and lush enough (drinks) for our taste.
Big mistake.
Asked for a Cosmo, which IS ON THE MENU. Ten min later, I get up and ask if my order would be coming soon. I was then informed that they did not have the ingredients to make a cosmo. I requested the bartender let me know what he can make that is similar, with vodka. Waiter came back and said there was nothing similar he could make. I asked if they had any other type of juice they can use as a mixer, they said no.
We finally decided to pay for our food, which had not been delivered to our table after being there for about 20 min, and leave. We told the waitress if they could pack it up and we would be back to pick up. She was not happy about having to do that. Before leaving we overheard the same waiter offering lemonade to another patron, as well as some other type of juice.
Paid for our food and left.
Upon returning to pick up our order, they were forcing payment again. Ridiculous.

Read moreI really liked this place. Service was good. Food was good. They had cool art all over the place that added such a unique feel.
But the music was so loud my ears hurt and ached for an over after we left. we were forced to shout the entire time. We asked for them to turn it down but I’m sure they just went ok gringo because it just felt like it got louder. We eventually moved when another table opened up and it helped a little.
But ambience is set by the volume of music. Anything too loud just takes from the experience. I’ve never been so uncomfortable waiting or eating my food.
Now I know bars can be loud but to add context we didn’t go at midnight to eat. We went at 830. There is no need to have music that loud before anyone has even had a drink.
I’ve actually changed my review 3 times. Each time dropping it another star. Never have had such...
Read moreWe’ve been to La Otra popular several times with varying results. The first time we ate there was really good, the second time the server completely forgot to put our order in and it took an hour and a half for us to get food. We tried again this past week because they really do have an interesting menu. All of us ordered the ash ceviche, which we have had before, and liked. This time it was more bland and not particularly appetizing. My husband also had the mushrooms in garlic butter, which he would not recommend. The worst part of the last trip, though, was the cocktails. My daughter and I ordered Mezcal margaritas. They were quite literally undrinkable. I love me a good margarita and they’re supposed to be acidic but these had no balance and did not taste as though there was any mezcal in them. After a couple of sips, we left them...
