We really wanted to enjoy our meal and experience in one of few a vegan restaurants in Oaxaca.
Experience: 5 tables that the owner allowed to be used (front not back of restaurant) Owner discussed meal choices, very close to our faces without wearing a mask. He also went to other tables and delivered meals without that illusive mask. Waited a bit but server showed up - she was lovely. However her mom and ‘very’ immature sister (we assume) not wearing a mask entered the restaurant and sought out attention while laughing, being rude, sitting at table closest to bar. Sister then went to toilet while yelling and being rude. Customers looking at each other In disbelief. Where is the owner? Not really the quality restaurant experience you are envisioning for a peaceful meal. Most customers not wearing masks when enter but then again neither does the owner “. For this reason alone we will not return. Other customers put on their own masks when customers and owner walked around restaurant. You could tell, most customers were uncomfortable. Music choice is excellent and the right level of sound Location very good - nice ventilation with doors open on two streets
Food Weird. We ordered before other tables even arrived but our meals were delayed (oh well we had nothing but time) prices on the high side for starters. Garlic mushrooms $150 pesos for example. Same price as entrees Spaghetti primavera was excellent. Alambre mushrooms were mostly peppers - it was ok. guacamole very tasty with lots of garlic & warm fresh chips Wine is good and well priced
Food 4/5 Wine...
Read moreWe went on New Years Eve 2018, and had a very poor experience. We very infrequently make negative comments about restaurants but wanted to add our experience to the body of reviews to inform potential customers and the restaurant.
FOOD AND WAIT TIMES We waited more than an hour for our main courses. My partner's pasta was cold, my sides were cold, and my steak was overdone. We also waited about 45 minutes for our appetizers (bruschetta and salad).
SERVICE Both my partner and I have worked in the service industry and we are sympathetic to both FOH and BOH staff on busy nights. That said, we both know what reasonable steps to take when the restaurant is understaffed and busy. None of those steps were taken.
Our server was the only server on staff for the entire restaurant of 12 tables or so, and we only saw him 2-3 times during the meal. He was abrupt, but understandably so given he was running the entire restaurant himself.
A number of other tables were served before us, and some patrons were in after we'd ordered and out before we'd received our appetizers.
We were not greeted when we entered the restaurant, we were not warned about slow cooking time, and there was no apology for the cold food or the wait times.
OAXACA RESTAURANT EXPERIENCES We have had spectacular food and service at every other market, bar and restaurant we've been too since arriving in Oaxaca. This restaurant was well below the standard that has been set by the other exceptional establishments...
Read moreWe entered our Airbnb through the courtyard of this restaurant so I had every motivation NOT to eat here as I wanted to see more of the city. And yet... We ate here twice in our six night stay. I am a vegetarian, but my husband is a Texan omnivore. Our friends are omnivores. We loved all the dishes we had. The salads were bright and flavorful, the cocktails were delicious and reasonably priced. The pasta (I kept thinking: why am I ordering pasta in Mexico and yet, I did two times in a row) was perfectly cooked and flavorful. Or server was delightful. She was so helpful as we have limited Spanish, but the menu is in both languages and she was friendly and so supportive of our efforts to speak in Spanish. The courtyard is lovely. Prices are very reasonable for the area. Overall,...
