I’ll write a balanced review, but we were looking forward to this place after reading the good reviews. For me, one of the differences between a good place and a great place is how the kitchen copes when busy. We went last night. It was busy. The front desk was efficient and we were seated quickly. Then we were ignored for around 15 mins. We ordered the shrimp salad and calamari to start. The calamari arrived initially and was cold and a little chewy. The salad arrived 10 minutes later. Not a great start. We both ordered the carnes frías pizzas as a main course. The pizza base was thin and crispy which was good. But when you are paying this much for a pizza, i DO NOT expect cheap processed hot dog sausage on a pizza. Sorry - that was awful. We asked for the bill and they tried to charge us for 2 bottles of wine, when we had ordered one. Servers - please check the bill before you give it to a customer. All in all we would never return here. Overpriced, overrated and not a...
Read moreWe ordered pasta. The service was cordial but seemed more focused on cutting costs. That's partly why the review is only 3-stars. After ordering, the server brought two pieces of bread and some tapanade. The bread was somewhat dry towards the edges, like it may have been a couple of days old. We ate the bread. They didn't offer to bring more, we had to ask. They brought two more pieces, almost grudgingly. My pasta dish had nice flavor but was more like a child-sized serving. My wife's pasta portion was quite a bit larger, more in line with what you might expect, but the squid was very chewy. After my pasta I was still hungry and asked for more bread --- thought they might have a heart attack. The server said if we wanted more tapanade it would be $65 pesos. We had finished it with the four slices. The last slices of bread were fresher. Too bad the first ones weren't the same quality. Note that our dinner cost didn't include wine or...
Read moreI know waiter and kitchen crew are short staffed and overworked…but I worked in a restaurant before at least get drinks and bread out quickly. My husband had the rib eye which was not seasoned well it didn’t taste like anything but it was cooked to temperature maybe a little under and I had the spaghetti carbonara…it was disgusting, it was bitter. I told the waiter and he said let me check and he took off without giving me a chance to tell him I didn’t want him making it again because he check on us after a while and my husband had given me some of his steak. They brought another spaghetti carbonara it was a bit better but not good I had a few bites out of courtesy. It’s an “expensive” restaurant for the Oaxaca I think and we expect it to be good. Would never go back!! The only positive thing is that their sangria was delicious...
