Mr Waffle When looking for a quaint outdoor place to dine in Playa Del Carmen , I try to find one that’s fairly busy.
There are some places that I walk by that are pretty much empty and it makes me wonder why? So when I see a place that’s full of people, I assume it must have good food and service.
That was certainly the case with Mr Waffle. When I got there, they literally only had one table left out 10 or so. Other places I passed, had only one table occupied. Some none.
When I arrived, I was greeted right away by a friendly waitress, who sat me down right away, but warned me that there was a 30 minute wait for food. I’m on Mexican time so I didn’t mind having a coffee and waiting.
Most seating is indoors, or should I say ,under a roof. It’s all open air. And they do have two large ceiling fans to keep the heat down.
Looking at the menu, there is a lot on offer for such a small place and the prices are very reasonable. But I am here, surprise-surprise, for the waffles.
I ordered the Americano waffle, which comes with bacon and eggs and maple syrup. And an Americano coffee because I find Mexican coffee to be a little weak and sweet.
It is a pleasant place on a quiet street corner. As I waited for my order, it was pleasant just to look around and see the sights of people strolling by and hear birds singing. A nice place to think. Or not.
When my food arrived I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of it. With one thick brown waffle cut into four pieces and two eggs with crisp bacon on top.
Immediately the smell of all three mixed into a mouthwatering bouquet that begged to be eaten.
The eggs and bacon were good but the waffle, plain as it was ( they have whipped cream and berries etc on offer) I saved until last. It was fluffy and thick at the same time. And ,with a little maple syrup, delicious.
As told by the many waiting in line and those in attendance, this little waffle house is not a secret and is very much worth visiting. Highly...
Read moreOh boy, where do I begin? I was pretty disappointed with my trip to Mr. Waffle. The service was horrific. They took 30 minutes to bring us two coffees. The two coffees were priced the same but one had significantly less coffee in it. Then they took 30 more minutes to bring us our order. It took them 7 minutes to bring me a fork as they only had one in their basket on the table. My girlfriend had almost finished her food by the time I got my fork. I had requested some salsa for my waffle because it was dry and it took them an additional 10 minutes to bring me salsa. I was almost done with my food by the time they brought me salsa. I felt the waffles were not crispy enough and they were a bit dry and flavorless for me. The portions were microscopic and it was entirely too expensive for what you get. I also feel like they weren't respecting the social distancing guidelines as required by the Mexican government. There was not enough space between tables. I wouldn't eat here again, to be honest. If you decide to not take my advice and eat here, make sure you are not in a hurry as you will need between 90 and 120 minutes...
