Señor Frog's — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

SCAM ALERT, CAVEAT EMPTOR We've been to Senor Frogs in two other countries so we mistakenly believed that a known chain would not try to steal from us. If we would've read the reviews first we would've found out that there are several alleged scams in operation at this location.

We fell victim to a padded tip scam. Our server, Isaac, told us that he would do us a favor and charge our card the lower pesos rate on our credit card. We inferred that he was trying to do us a favor and save us money, what he was really doing is hoping that we had drank enough alcohol to not be able to do math and currency conversion because he charged both parties 30% tip when we both told him 20%. 10% to 15% is a good tip in Playa yet he attempted to steal extra. I was yelling at him (few heard since the music here is so loud as to wake the dead) and he ran and immediately got us both 200 pesos to cover the attempted theft. He was going on with an excuse that I didn't want to hear.

Everywhere we go in Playa they are trying to charge more than what's due. We thought that a chain might be different but it wasn't. Looking at the other reviews I see that Senor Frogs personnel work as a wolf pack like so many...

Big disappointment. Lots of hype on this place that doesn't deliver. Drinks were lousy and expensive. This place is about getting drunk on cheap liquor where you pay a lot for that cheap stuff. Music is loud and it's difficult to hear the person next to you. Not some place I would go back to.

Update: Here are my facts to support my opinion While sitting at the bar a staff member walked up, blew a whistle in me ear and tried to get me to accept a mystery shot. I had been getting similar drinks all week. This was clearly the most expensive place to get a similar cocktail.

Opinions: Drinks don't taste good. I'm likely just used to drinks being made with better ingredients. So for low end, maybe this would be considered good, but for the price I was expecting to get atleast on par with the quality of other places. Loud music, that's a straight up opinion,mine was that I like talking to the beautiful woman next to me, but just my opinion.

There are a lot of different places in playa del carmen. This was not for me. I hope the detail helps to understand my review.

The first time my boyfriend and I went here we really enjoyed it so we decided to go back again the next night. What a big mistake. We soon realized that what we thought was good drinks, great servers, and amazing entertainment the first night was all just a show to attract more customers off of the street to rob them of their money. One of the servers started going around from table to table giving multiple shots to everyone. She eventually made it over to us and gave us four shots each, no comments made and no questions asked. Then she asked me to pick either one or two. I said two. She then ordered two more shots for each of us from the bar. We obviously thought that all of this was free and part of the entertainment as it in in almost every other bar. But no. One minute later she came back over to us and told us that we had to pay almost €40 (almost $50) for the shots of water that she had just forced upon us. We feel that we were used to create entertainment to attract more customers off of the street and then asked to pay for it. We will not be going back here and we advise anyone considering to go to either not go or be very careful...
