Mestiza — Restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

I don't know why there's all the positive reviews about this spot. We stopped in for lunch, we were the only table. We ordered some margaritas and food. When the margaritas arrived and tasted like there was no tequila in them we asked the server about them. He then informed us that they were made with rum traditionally, so that is what he gave us. My opinion is that if you're not serving a margarita made with tequila, you should probably inform the people ordering them. I then requested mine to be remade with tequila and after a very long wait I was given a new drink. I don't drink a lot so I can feel it when I have any amount of alcohol...it tasted like there was no tequila at all in this drink and I did not feel any effects whatsoever from drinking it. My brother, who drank his margarita made with rum and also the one that was initially served to me said he also didn't think there was much if any alcohol in the drinks. As far as the food, we three ate there just two days ago and none of us can remember what we ate. The atmosphere is cute, the service the slowest and most neglectful we've experienced in SMA, and the food was okay I guess? With all the great places to eat and drink in San Miguel, I wouldn't bother...

Food was good and servers were very kind, but the service was some of the worst ever. Took 15 minutes to get our water which incidentally wasn't bottled. Food came out incredibly slowly and erratically. Three of us finished our meals before others received their food little by little, almost one hour after ordering. One hour for two sunny side up eggs? Also, we brought in our own wine (they have a corkage fee), but there were no wine glasses and then we couldn't get their attention to actually open the bottles. Visited Mestiza for brunch with a pre-arranged group reservation of 10. Our first visit there. Food was good, the garden seating was very nice but the service, while friendly, was super slow for 4 of our 10 meals. My wife’s meal (an omelette) arrived after I had finished my plate.
