After walking up and down the hotel zone for a couple of hours trying to find a place to eat and that had a reasonably priced beach club (which wasn't possible), we settled on eating here and were not impressed. Menu was overpriced but similar to other restaurants in the area, which just means that Tulum has gotten really overpriced in general over the past year or two. That being said, pricey food is okay when it is good. The view was great, the service was okay, and the food was basic. I ordered an egg white omelette for about 200 pesos which was literally a couple of egg whites folded over, a tablespoon of black beans and few pieces of lettuce. We have been living here for a couple of months and egg whites are my go to for breakfast so I know that the large carton of egg whites goes for about 20-40 pesos and you could make 10+ of the omelettes served here with just one of those cartons. So they are making at least least 2000 of something costing them about 1% of that (20 pesos). I get it, they have a business to run but throw a couple veggies in there or some cheese or anything to not make it feel like I am getting ripped off. I got the same thing down at La Zebra/Lulas down the street and it has some amazingly seasoned veggies in the egg whites which made all the difference at that similar price point. My daughter ordered the 'Homemade Hotcakes' with fresh fruit and coconut sauce. Better tasting and a little more effort placed in this dish. Coconut sauce was watered down so if it was a little thicker, the flavor and consistency would've made these pancakes great. Server was kind but definitely could feel a change in their service when we decided not to do the beach club. It is sargassum season so the smell makes it hard to enjoy. Honestly, it must be hard for the hotel zone during this time of year and it is unfortunate that Tulum is taking such a tourism hit right now but if they just offered some great specials on food and beach clubs, they would make a lot more money and we wouldn't have been the only people eating at the restaurant. And if they don't want to offer special pricing, then at least make the food good enough that we are okay paying more.

The Papaya Playa Project Beach Club is a hidden gem along the coast, offering a magnificent view and a pristine beach compared to others in the area. My visit was nothing short of delightful, with the famous PPP drink and a mezcal martini adding a touch of coastal sophistication to the experience. Upon arrival, the absence of someone to seat us was a slight hiccup, but the breathtaking scenery kept us captivated during the brief 10-minute wait. Once seated, we swiftly perused the menu, knowing exactly what we desired. The Caesar salad, featuring smoked oysters (unfortunately out of stock) and the TIKIN XIK FISH TACOS, were our initial choices, with a spontaneous switch to AGUACHILI'K due to the oyster shortage. The meals, accompanied by tortilla chips and a delightful mild and spicy sauce, were a taste sensation. The AGUACHILI'K, in particular, was a flavorful delight, perfectly complemented by the tortilla chips. The ambiance at Papaya Playa Project is unparalleled – a red-light theme cast a romantic glow as we dined with the beachfront panorama. The gentle sounds of ocean splashes harmonized with each bite of the fresh fish tacos, creating an immersive experience akin to a dive into the ocean during a mesmerizing sunset. In the end, despite the initial wait and minor menu adjustment, Papaya Playa Project Beach Club left an indelible mark with its culinary excellence, stunning views, and intimate ambiance. A true coastal haven for those seeking a romantic and gastronomic escape. 🌅🍹🌮 #PapayaPlayaProject #BeachClubMagic #GastronomicExperience #SunsetDining

This was my second time visiting the beach club in 3 years and overall, it was a relaxing and enjoyable beach day. As of March 20, 2025 the minimum spend is $90 USD ($1800 Pesos) per person, which includes a $25 service charge just to be there, and the rest goes towards food and drink. This is on the higher end compared to other beach clubs in the area, which tend to be between $65-75 per person. The food was very high quality and tasty, service was excellent and waiters were extremely attentive. For the price, we felt the portions were lacking compared to other beach clubs. Great food, just small (ex: one shrimp each per taco, one piece of fish per taco, etc.) Drinks were very good and they had a healthier/more natural selection compared to other clubs, featuring flavors like ginger, turmeric, etc as well as a selection of natural juices which was a great way to take a break from drinking alcohol all day. My conclusion: you come here purely for the aesthetic. Beautiful beach, unique and natural decor, amazing bathrooms, comfortable day beds and pool, relaxing music (which can’t be heard on the beach, but that’s ok with me) - if you’re ok with spending $90 per person, it’s a day well spent.

TURST TRAP: I edited this review because it was redirected to the hotel and not to the beach club. Now about the beach club.. The food looks ok but the taste is 0. They charge you prices of NY, for services of Africa (and we had way better food in Africa). Better buy something from the supermarket and at least you know that you eat for exactly what you pay. The only nice thing here is the view, but this is it. The beach in front is full of algae, dirty (it was never cleaned in 5 days) in full season.. all the other beach clubs, even the open ones were cleaned.. Even we said no spicy food, we had super spicy delivered. They didn't had fish.. at all. (Beach club with no fish, no oysters, even if they had them on the menu). Bottom line, FOOD WAS TASTELESS AND EXPENSIVE. The tip is mandatory and is starting from 18%.. again behaviour of NY in Mexic. Just go at Derek beach club and you'll see tasty food. Now, about NY EVE PARTY: We were approached by a French girl (which seemed nice) that they had a SUPER NICE PARTY WITH SUPER GOOD FOOD (because we asked her in advance if the food is the same as in the restaurant because we didn't like it at all), she assured us that is way better. Surprise, the entire even was not on our taste.. but let's say we are spoiled.. the food was horrible, from 5 courses I nearly touched the food, and we were not the only ones, a couple in front of us from Swiss said the same, you saw on the people's face that the food was horrible. The Swiss guys told her in that night at the table in French, and guess what.. she was surprised of the feedback, but when we went to give feedback next day: "but all the other guest were super excited, no one complained".. just we heard a lot of ppl complained. The "party" after was music for drugged ppl, otherwise no one was dancing, people drugged on the beach, the music just bass and that's it. We stayed until 00:50, no one was dancing, the music was as at the end of a festival, 6 AM when they want to send you home. I have been to lots of festivals, concerts in my life, hotels, beach clubs.. and never saw this.. for "just" 850 EUR as guests.. and "just" 1500 USD for outsiders.. The guys from Swiss left at 00:20.. "Wonderful experience" Again, sorry for not taking any pics of this.. as I never complain or write bad reviews, but these people.. deserve it. If the management is not changed.. they will have a lot to suffer and the...
