LEER HASTA EL FINAL Para los que aman visitar nuevos lugares y pasar el día afuera les recomiendo quedar se en Oostal Smart Hostal Tulum Playa.
The location is perfect, just 1 minuto from the front beach where you can enjoy every morning sunrise (around 7am so not to bad during winter) It’s not located in the MAINSTREAM hotel area, which for us was just perfect. I love the Bohemian chic style of the Tulum beach area, but sometimes when everything is the same, it quickly becomes a copy past of the same story and Oostal as the most ORIGINAL set up with their love for “Lucha Libre”.
Now the most important, the people working at the Oostal. First, the beautiful Irma in the kitchen cooks the best FOOD we had in Tulum beach area. Everything was delicious and fresh, so why bother going somewhere else? When you can keep supporting the same business ? Leave generous tips to the staff as they all treat you like “familia”. Every morning Jose took care of us, and let me tell you I was very impressed by this young man manners and cares. He was great conversation and he just shines HAPPINESS! Then, every night we got taken care by Lalo who is the sweetest man, again making us feel apart of the extension of the Oostal Family. Giving us the best tips and what to do in Tulum. Overall everyone that works at the Hostal are amazing humans and you need to celebrate that because this days it’s easy to pass by and not get notice. But after our stay here, we will remember this holiday thanks to them.
The dorms are perfect, cozy and clean. They give us all the instructions and quiet time was respected given when in the main bar there is a party going on, you can’t hear anything from the rooms. The toilets and showers area are perfect, I actually think the style is ABSOLUTLY gorgeous and of very good taste. The only note I would leave for improvement is the common area that misses some lighting and some decorations. But who cares when you came to tulum to EXPLORE TULUM and not stay at your resort. I personally hate the whole big resort development and am really sad they are building a train that will go all around the Riviera Maya. In 10 years time we will not have the same natural jungle (there is not much left) and simple natural spots.
Out of everything we did in 4 days my top 5 to do in tulum are : 1# playa palmeras early morning. 2# connected with real locals. Go say hi to Chan next door to the Oostal for any TOUR! 3# eat tacos everywhere. 4# rent a scooter or a bike 5/1# Lagoa Kaan Luum and rent a Kayake to go around the lagoon 5/2# Get yourself a spiritual cleanse by local Chamman.

Read moreThey keep changing their name because their reviews are so bad. So here’s my review on the hostel that was recently “Mar & Carmen” but is now “Oostel smart hostel”. They are not a new hostel.
It’s almost guaranteed you will get stuff stolen here! Read recent reviews for Mar & Carmen ( the original name) . The staff are super sketchy. There’s about 10-15 staff members that sit around and do nothing all day. Also if you don’t like to sleep this place is for you! The roof is not enclosed and you are right above the highway. You hear loud music until 2 am and then from 4-6 am it’s constant semi trucks. There’s a water truck that comes every other day and it sounds like it’s in your room. It pumps water extremely loud for about a half hour each time. The gas fumes from the truck fill the entire room. This is very unsafe. They don’t allow you to have the AC remote and it gets really cold. They don’t provide blankets or towels even though they are in the pictures. Literally the worst hostel I’ve ever stayed in. During my stay the only other guest staying there had some valuables stolen. The beach across the street is so small that if you want some more space you have to walk 30+ minutes in either direction. Not an...

Loved having the only public beach access right across the street and also perfectly located for just a quick bike ride into town or the other side of tulum Beach...
