Really cute vibes, great location, amazing “sunset view”, kind and helpful staff, even drink specials! Unfortunately however, the food is medicocre to terrible, and the sunset deck is drinks/apps only. We came here three times during our 2 weeks here. Each time the staff was wonderful, the food was incredibly meh, and (while super sweet and welcoming) the service wasn’t incredibly speedy. On the roof, we personally witnessed at least 10 groups - ranging from 1 person to 6- left as soon as they found out a full menu wasn’t offered. It’s a menu limited to 5 apps only and drinks (that cost more than when you’re downstairs). Another missed oppritunity is that the food even downstairs is really meh. Collectively we ate a steak burrito, a chicken fajita plate, and an order of fish tacos. The three “salsas” that come in refillable plastic ketchup bottles are the least authentic we’ve personally tasted. And the white sauce is just herbed mayo (despite being called the “sour cream based sauce”. The food collectively has a flavor of burnt/overused cooking oil. The seasonings were not impressive. It’s also not cheap! Just a burrito and one margarita runs about $30. A swing and a miss from Mexico for sure.

Everyone we met was welcoming, friendly and helpful, if moving at a glacial/island vibes pace. This place has the potential for so much more…. A missed opportunity for the...

This was the most unfortunate hotel experience in my life. Apart from the hip and excellent location on the beach side of Tulum, literally nothing else was working: mateo`s is a pretty popular bar with loud music until around 12am which we could hear in our rooms (along with every other car or street noise the whole day and night); we couldn't rent the two only bikes available because the breaks didn't work; the room was extremely humid and smelled heavily; the WiFi was not working - never; there's no sound isolation between the upper and ground floor so we could literally hear every breath, step, conversation, intercorse action of our neighbours; the hot water was not working; at the moment the hotel is still under construction so there was nobody at the reception to talk to. We had to get on the other side of the road and go to the bar every time we want to talk to someone responsible for the hotel; it was not possible to close the curtains in the room. I could find more flaws but the list of the not working things above is what frustrated us (me and my boyfriend) most. I do not recommend to...

We went here based on Google's recommendations for "cheap eats". Well we ended up spending the rest of our pesos before crossing into Belize lol (it's a bit pricey for a travellers budget). Atmosphere is really cool, there's an upstairs lounge (check it out) but we ate downstairs. The cucumber margarita is a must if you come here (not on the menus we received but we asked about cocktails). The pineapple IPA was great as well, a welcome break from all the Mexican lager lol. The food was good, pretty mild on the spices for what we're used to, but we enjoyed it all. The service was STRANGE. The server taking our order tried to suggest a different item then what we wanted (he suggested the special instead). We said no thank you, but he kept trying to push it! Three times! We insisted we wanted what we asked for and he finally gave up. Super weird. Staff also kept clearing things away from our table when we weren't finished. Without checking in. So weird. All in all I think we'd only come back for bevvies. Upstairs had a DJ and drinks, good for a bit...

Great fish tacos! We were walking by and the decor of the place caught our eye, with the large open space, and colorful decorations. We started with drinks and they have one of the best mango margaritas I've ever tried- so refreshing and the mango chunks were a great touch. They also have cheladas and micheladas. For food, we ordered guacamole and ceviche to start. The guacamole came with the tomatoes/onions on the side so you have the option of mixing it in yourself, if you'd like, so its great for people who dont particularly like tomatos or onions. It also came with a spicy salsa, and homemade chips. For our entrees, we all tried the chicken tacos, fish tacos, and shrimp tacos, and the whole table agreed the fish tacos were the best. They brought our food with 4 different types of sauces: a spicy green one, a white creamy "secret sauce", a sweet tamarind sauce, and a spicy chipotle. It gives your dish some great variety to play with. Highly recommend: mango margarita, grilled fish tacos (a la parilla).

This restaurant was recommended by the hotel and a retailer. My son loves wings so he was happy we had something different than Mexican or Mayan food. We got the tacos de carne asada. I can’t speak for the complaints on the fish tacos, but our tacos and wings have been our best meal including the hotel and local restaurants. The corn tortillas are very thin and small. Delicious! The wings were super tender (fall off the bone), AND crispy. In regards to people saying it’s overpriced, yes it is comparatively but I will pay more for good food. We had tacos last night that were less expensive, but 1/2 as good. We came here in the afternoon so it wasn’t packed. When doing anything in Tulum with a family go early. It’s not nearly as busy. All the partiers are sleeping off their hangover.

This place has a lot going for it. It has a cool design and it's dramatic red lighting looks interesting at night. It's a great place to catch a sunset and the drinks looked pretty tasty. In theory, it should be good, but between the service and the other patrons, it was a no go for me. After waiting an hour for my food, which was just chips and guac, and after putting up with drunken Americans screaming and acting like idiots, I was ready to get the hell out as soon as possible. The nail in the coffin for me was when the bartender, who I'm pretty sure forgot to ring in my food, told me that service wasn't included. I have pretty relaxed standards for service, ESPECIALLY when I'm travelling, but I have no patience for this level of greed. Won't be back.
