An expensive tourist trap with terrible food. We thought we'd treat ourselves because it was busy and looked upmarket- what a mistake. The only good thing about it is the nice location right on the edge of the main square. We sat down to order food and drinks, when we went to place our order (2 people), they didn't have either of the 2 things we wanted - OK this happens. So we ordered our drinks and asked for a few more minutes to pick something else off the menu. No one came back to retake our order so we flagged someone down. 25-30 minutes later, 1 order turned up. Still no drinks. They forgot. They finally brought our drink order (1 Margarita, 1 can of beer). I was half way through my soup when my partners chicken fajita turned up. It was the most tasteless fajita we ever had, no seasoning at all. Nothing. Plain chicken, peppers and onions. No salt, no seasoning, no herbs - literally nothing. Packet mix fajitas from the supermarket are waaaay better - they have flavour. We had to ask for hot sauce to make it edible. Literally the worst food and worst service we've had in mexico - and the most...
Read moreLos Portales is conveniently located across from the Plaza Principal in Valladolid. Its a busy corner, but makes for enjoyable watching of local life, especially near sundown as it cools off and the city comes to life.
We ate in early evening mid week. We were promptly greeted by staff, and offered menus in both English and Spanish. We ordered both Enfrioladas de Pollo and Cochinita Pibil. Both entrees were well prepared and fresh-- did need to request some habenero salsa for the Coconino, and it was promptly provided. The bill for entrees and two bottles of mineral water was $460MX. We believe the poor reviews by some are due to ordering vegan or vegetarian items that are likely not really part of the culinary culture of this area, but more of an attempt to cater to foreign tourists, not always successfully. Stay with traditional food and you...
Read moreWe stumbled across this place being that it was open early for breakfast. They accommodated our party of 13 in their outside dining section. The wait staff was nice and very patient. All the meals were prepared fresh, being that the plates came out a few at a time, not all at once. The food was delicious and most of our party ended up ordering additional food, mostly extra quesadillas. There were also a couple of local ladies that walked by selling goods such as seeds, spices, shirts, dresses and headbands. They were very economically priced. Overall, we were very happy with our experience at...
