My wife and I recently stayed at Hotel Real Hispano, a charming colonial-style hotel nestled in the heart of Valladolid, Yucatán. We chose the Junior Suite with King Bed and Jacuzzi, hoping for a comfortable base as we explored the city—and we’re happy to say it delivered on nearly every front. We arrived in Valladolid by car after spending the morning enjoying the breeze and shoreline of Puerto Progreso, where we had a brief stop before heading inland. The transition from the coast into the colonial streets of Valladolid was smooth and scenic, offering a lovely contrast of landscapes. Navigating to the hotel was straightforward, and we found ourselves just one block away from the city’s main square, Parque Francisco Cantón Rosado. We were immediately struck by the building’s traditional façade—warm tones, arched colonnades, and a sense of peaceful seclusion right in the middle of downtown bustle. One of the features we appreciated the most was the private gated parking, located directly behind the hotel. Given the narrow colonial streets and limited public parking in Valladolid’s centre, having a secure place for our rental car just steps from our room was incredibly convenient. The check-in process was relaxed and efficient, and we were soon walking through the charming open-air courtyard with its hammocks, greenery, and small pool that radiated a quiet, hacienda-like charm. Our Junior Suite was spacious and tastefully decorated, with stone walls, rustic wood accents, and colourful tiles blending traditional Yucatecan character with modern comfort. The bed was large and very comfortable, and the room was well-equipped with air conditioning, a small lounge area, coffee maker, flat-screen TV, and a mini fridge. The jacuzzi tub, located in the bathroom, was one of the reasons we picked this suite—but we quickly learned that you need to request hot water from reception before using it. Once sorted, it worked wonderfully, and we thoroughly enjoyed soaking and relaxing after long walking days. While not a luxury hotel, Real Hispano is clearly well cared for—everything was clean and in working order. The overall vibe was quiet and relaxed, especially surprising given how close we were to the busy square. We slept soundly each night and appreciated that we could walk to virtually all of Valladolid’s main sights: the San Gervasio Cathedral, the local market, Cenote Zací, and Calle de los Frailes were all within easy reach. The hotel’s on-site restaurant was useful for breakfast and a casual dinner. The breakfast options were simple but satisfying, and we enjoyed the fresh fruit and coffee. Dinner was more of a home-style affair—nothing extraordinary but convenient when we didn’t feel like going out. However, when we tried to organise something special for my wife’s birthday, the staff kindly informed us that they don’t offer celebration services like decorated tables or cakes. It was a bit of a letdown, but we eventually found a charming spot nearby for the occasion. Overall, Hotel Real Hispano offered everything we needed for a comfortable and practical stay, making it a great base for exploring the highlights of Valladolid and its surroundings.

Real Hispano was the perfect choice for a visit to Valladolid for us. The price point was very reasonable, although I wouldn't spend the extra on the breakfast because there are lots of better choices for a breakfast experience, within walking distance and for a similar price. The Real Hispano has tons of vibe. Love the tile work and architecture and it was very clean. The location is perfect and has parking on location. It is walking distance to many fantastic restaurants. The main Plaza (Park/square) was a 2 minute walk and yet we still felt like we had privacy and quiet. The pool area was nice for sitting and reading. If pools are important to you, you might be disappointed because the pool itself is not great and quite small. We would definitely recommend Real Hispano. We are planning to return to Valladolid and will be booking with them again. I've included some pictures. The picture indoors are from the Hotel. The outdoor pictures are all short walks from the Real Hispano. One last and important note, the hotel is about a 30-40 minute drive from Chichen Itza which is a must to check out.

We absolutely loved our stay at Real Hispano! We got to the hotel before check-in, and they were kind enough to still let us leave our vehicle in the parking lot for no extra cost. I loved the old feel of the building and courtyard, yet the rooms are modern, clean, and nice. We loved hanging out in the hammock area by the pool in the afternoon! Considering it is right in the middle of town, we felt very safe and appreciated the onsite security. The location is absolutely superb for just strolling around the city and is close to shops, grocery store, and restaurants.

We (Mother and 11 year old son) made a very late decision to visit Valladolid for Christmas and the hotels that were recommended by a travel agent friend were all fully booked. The reviews for Real Hispano were great and the location seemed perfect based on my Valladolid research, so I booked it, but I was honestly a bit nervous because it was so affordable. Well, I was beyond pleasantly surprised when we arrived, I could not believe how nice the hotel was for the price and the location is absolutely perfect to enjoy the charm of Valladolid. The pool and restaurant area is lovely and open late, attentive staff, and a good variety of food, even if you have a picky kiddo like mine. The hotel is a 30 second walk from the bustling town square and close to all of the top attractions. Bonus, Chichen Itza is a safe and easy 45 minute drive, Ek Balam 30 minutes. The town cenote Zaci is walking distance but a little gritty, recommend cenote oxman if you want something a little nicer, it’s like a 12 minute drive. There were a few things that were not ideal and good to know if you stay here. Parking at the hotel is a bit limited, but they do have a huge private parking lot a 5 minute walk from the hotel, which was fine and felt safe even in the dark. We had to leave very early on our last day to get to the airport and we were parked at the hotel. If you need to check out early, there is no one at the desk before 6. There was a car blocking us in and we couldn’t get out. The front desk person said it belonged to one of the hotel staff. We waited for someone to move it for 15 minutes and no one came, so I used my best 100 point turn to get us around the car without damaging the rental car. If we would have waited for someone to move the car we probably would have missed our flight. This is the only reason I’m giving 4 and not 5 stars - I would recommend this hotel to any and all travelers, including families, just beware of the...

BED BUGS - DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL

They gave us a room full of bed bugs. We woke up covered in bites. We went down to reception and the woman told us she would get someone to "clean the room." Which is absolutely wild to me, bed bugs live in the mattress they should be burned immediately (however I have seen two recent reviews in which people got bed bugs so clearly they have not gotten rid of the mattresses!!) We spent 2.5 hours in their lobby trying to get a refund so we could leave the hotel. They refused. That we had to pay for a night in their hotel in which we were given a room full of bed bugs is disgraceful. When we finally realized trying to get a refund was futile, we had to accept their offer of a "room upgrade." Which was a joke, it was sightly bigger and didn't even have hot water and didn't include breakfast. Like what business sense is that? We also obviously needed to wash our clothes, which they then CHARGED US FOR! Clothes we had to wash because of their bed bug ridden room. No one was held accountable and we were not adequately financially compensated for this terrible treatment. This hotel...
