We were In Valladolid for 1 night and after a long day on the road,we checked in our hotel, showered and we were ready to go out for dinner. The lady at the front desk recommended this restaurant.Once we arrived in the center of the town, there were at least 4-5 restaurants in close proximity to one another. After checking the menus and asking 2 more locals (including the traffic police officer), it seemed that everyone was recommending El Atrio, so we went for it. Upon entering we were asked if we preferred the garden in the back or inside the restaurant. We obviously opted for the garden as it was getting late and the temperature was starting to come down. The garden offered plenty of shadow and fans were available for extra ventilation. Extensive menu for drinks, one of the first restaurants I was able to get a craft beer.My wife, mother in law and my mother opted for margaritas which were very tasty. Some unique flavors I might add: maracuya, albahaca (basil). The drink took a little bit longer to arrive than what I would’ve wanted.I guest the good part of this was we could check the menu extensively. We were in a traditional Yucatán food establishment so pretty much all food names were new to us. Menus in English are available. We were 5 in our party so we opted for the huge platter for 4 people which contained pretty much all the specialties from the other items on the menu, to name a few:cochinita pibil, panochos, papadzules, longaniza (local pork sausage),lomillo Sopa Mayab and Sopa de Lima were delicious. There’s a very nice lady making hand made tortillas, let me tell you, these fresh tortillas were top notch. Crepa de cajeta for desert turned out to be a good choice too. We were super happy with this restaurant and looked over the menu for the breakfast options!! ... and next thing you know we were back for breakfast. Egg,fruit, juice and coffee packages are available. Full espresso bar too, can’t start the day without an espresso! Goes without sayingI would definitely recommend...
Read moreThe food at El Atrio is excellent and it’s certainly worth visiting for that alone. My partner and I ordered various Yucatan specialties and highlights included the empanadas, Valladolid sausage and the cheese fondue. The fruit water frescas are also delicious and refreshing and the cocktails menu is extensive and worth trying. However, the service was awful. We were only one of two tables when we arrived and placed our order. We ordered cocktails and confirmed twice with our server which we wanted, though he still seemed quite confused by our request, even when we pointed directly to them on the menu. Our water and frescas arrived promptly, but no cocktails. By the time our food arrived, still no cocktails. By this point our waiter had vanished so we waved over another waiter to ask when we would receive them. He then proceeded to go and take another order from a table. Four more times we had to ask where our drinks were and eventually were told one of the cocktails wasn’t available?! It must have been over an hour by the time we received our cocktails. Finally, mid way through eating, our original waiter remerged and asked if I wanted another water. I politely declined and he brought me the bill without asking?! We hadn’t even finished eating and at no point had I requested this. We decided to finish and leave without ordering anything else. We weren’t even asked if we wanted pudding or other drinks. I paid 10% service anyway just to avoid an argument, but frankly, I shouldn’t have paid anything. Such a shame as I really wanted to give this place 5-stars, but the service was truly shocking...
Read moreI was very happy to be seated out at the patio, it was beautiful at night, but that was the only beautiful thing about our family dinner. I don't know if it was the inexperienced waiter or the way this restaurant is run. We order 5 drinks and 7 items from the menu, one of them was a an appetizer - Guacamole. The food arrived in this order: first the drinks (good start) then my youngest daughter dish arrived alone then 10 minutes after the rest of the food arrived, together with the appetizer "guacamole" which came without chips. My older daughter order a dish that had a cheese garnish and she asked not to have cheese (allergy) but when the dish arrived, it arrived with the cheese. They took it away and scooped the cheese out and returned the plate (we could have done it ourselves, but that wasn't the idea when asking no cheese garnish) My husband dish arrived completely cold. We also ordered salad which arrived to the table with out any dressing. It took a long time to get as someone to come to asked for chips for the guacamole and dressing for the salad. Again we waited and nothing came to the table. Only when I get upset someone came to get the salad dressing and chips. If I can review the food quality, it looked very nice and fresh but there was no taste, it was very plain and missing salt even the guacamole. The Mayab salad which was recommended by the waiter was lettuce, peppers, egg and nothing else and as I mentioned before no dressing. It was a...
